Job Information

The Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Department of Medical Education at Florida International University is seeking adjunct lecturers for the Master in Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program. The MPAS Program is currently accredited by the ARC-PA with a present enrollment of 45 students each year, HWCOM FIU MPAS Program seeks adjunct instructors who will be responsible for specific assigned courses and corresponding syllabus in addition to the following:

  • MPAS Program Specific.
  • Adhere to all FIU, HWCOM, and MPAS Program policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to Course Syllabus.
  • Meet with the Director of Didactic Education and other members of the didactic team to discuss and review expectations of the course and all details in Course Syllabus to ensure student learning outcomes are met.
  • Develop and deliver Course lecture in accordance to the course learning objectives and learning outcomes as outlined in the Course Syllabus and NCCPA blueprint.
  • Submit Course lecture power-points to curriculum coordinator at minimum 4 business days prior to all scheduled lectures.
  • Develop Course assessment tools (exams and quizzes) and align to learning objectives. Adhere to all exams and quiz timelines. Submit exam or quiz to curriculum coordinator at a minimum of 7 business days prior to the scheduled exam or quiz.
  • Adhere to Course Schedule and arrive 15 minutes prior to start of lecture time. Communicate with the Director of Didactic Education and other members of the didactic team immediately in the event of any emergent situations that require cancellation or postponing a scheduled lecture.
  • Respond to all MPAS program communications (email, text, phone calls) within 72 hours.
  • Complete the course SWOC (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities for enhancement, and Challenges) and deliver report within 7 calendar days of the conclusion of the lecture series to curriculum coordinator.
  • At the end of the course, meet with the Director of Didactic Education to review and discuss student evaluation of course and student evaluation of Instructor (within 14 calendar days of the conclusion of the lecture series). Collaborate and provide feedback to enhance course and achieve program outcomes.
  • General Deliverables.
  • Treat all learners and colleagues with respect and fairness.
  • Demonstrate adherence to high professional standards in all interactions.
  • Provide effective learning formats (e.g., cases, laboratories, discussion groups). Manage the learning venue and the activity for optimal learning by assuring effective communication (e.g., repeating questions for the class; prohibiting disruptive activities, including late entry and early exit from the venue, extraneous verbal communications, and use of electronic devices for alternative purposes).
  • Plan teaching activities appropriate for the time and venue, coordinated within the overall curriculum longitudinally and vertically (ensure knowledge of the curriculum in relation to the session).
  • Respect student preparedness and time commitment by avoiding redundancy and clearly identifying essential material.
  • Provide guidance for students to adequately prepare in advance in a timely manner.
  • Be present start activities on time for didactic, investigational, and clinical encounters, and end activities on time, respecting.
  • Provide timely feedback with constructive suggestions and opportunities for improvement or remediation.
  • Grade/assess performance based on learning objectives and level of achievement.
  • Be available for contact and timely response through various means of communication-including official university email and phone-and have regular office hours during formal teaching periods.
  • Abstain from requesting learners to perform personal services or errands unrelated to the didactic, investigational, or clinical situation at hand.
  • Nurture both the intellectual and professional development of learners.

Minimum Qualifications

Primary Instructor:

  • Master's Degree and Certification in Physician Assistant Studies.

Secondary Instructor, Course Assistant and Other Instructional:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies or equivalent.

Departmental Requirements

The preferred qualifications are a Bachelor or Master's degree in physician assistant studies with a background as a public speaker and/or lecturer related to healthcare topics.
