Position is responsible for a team lead role for the general Ultrasound department. In addition, under general supervision, operates sophisticated, multi-modality ultrasound equipment to obtain quality ultrasonic images. Positions patient and adjusts ultrasound equipment to the correct setting for each examination. Performs and records ultrasound diagnostic tests of all parts of the anatomy. Insures the ultrasound exam is of acceptable diagnostic quality and records preliminary findings to assist in physician's interpretations.

JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the team lead is responsible for General Ultrasound, Vascular Ultrasound, or the Echocardiography department. In addition, the team lead operates sophisticated, multi-modality ultrasound equipment to obtain quality ultrasonic images. Positions patient and adjusts ultrasound equipment to the correct setting for each examination. Performs and records ultrasound diagnostic tests of all parts of the anatomy. Ensures the ultrasound exam is of acceptable diagnostic quality and records preliminary findings to assist in physician's interpretations. The team lead will also coordinate the daily workflow within the department.

Education

  • Completion of a one (1) year ultrasound training program at an accredited school

Experience

  • Five (5) year's experience as a staff Sonographer

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, families and employees who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
  • Verbal communication skills necessary to exchange information on a professional basis with fellow professional, non-professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Analytical skills necessary to direct day-to-day operations, ensure sufficient scheduling of personnel and to report equipment malfunctions, manage inventory usage, perform quality control and effectively handle employee relations problems
  • Analytical skills necessary to determine the best method of providing requested sonograms based on the specifics of the individual case. Ability to detect pathology based on the knowledge of physiologic causes and effects of diseases.

Licensures, Certifications

  • Must have passed a qualifying examination given by an appropriate credentialing agency.
  • Must maintain national registry through American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
  • Annual successful completion of "Healthcare Provider" CPR certification.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail with many distractions during procedures for approximately sixty percent (60%) of work time.
  • Ability to stand and walk for up to 80% of the work time, and to lift and position patients for up to 30% of work time.
  • Manual dexterity and visual ability to set up and operate all ultrasound equipment, and to assist physicians during procedures.
  • Ability to push and handle heavy equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Normal patient care environment with occasional exposure to patients with possible infectious diseases.
  • Visual and mental fatigue from prolonged viewing of CRT screens (up to 50% of work time).

Conditions of Employment

  • Registry eligible at time of hire; with registration for ARDMS certification exam within six months from date of hire, and successful completion of ARDMS exam within one year from date of hire, earning the RDMS credential.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs all ultrasound procedures
  • Manage day-to-day workflow. Set daily staff assignment schedules for operations; contact PRN staff to fill open shifts.
  • Assists in scheduling the flow of ultrasound examinations to ensure optimal utilization of equipment and personnel.
  • Manage supply and inventory within budget.
  • Consults with referring physicians regarding medical history of the patient, discusses appropriate procedures required, maintains records and/or technical notations on each case as required by regulatory agencies, and insures files and records are properly completed with correct information
  • Recognizes and troubleshoots equipment malfunctions and reports accurate information to the Biomedical Department and reports information to the Radiology manager.
  • Assists in making recommendations for new equipment.
  • Reviews and finalizes incomplete work lists in Radiology Information System.
  • Maintains time adjustments in hospital time and attendance system, and maintains staff scheduling and call sheets and provides copy to manager monthly.
  • Assists in implementing orientation and training programs for new employees
  • Maintains department competency documentation.
  • Serves as a resource for ultrasound imaging problems and provides technical input for mid and annual performance evaluations.
  • Ensures quality testing (QA) is completed and ensures that protocols are followed
  • Ensures Ultrasound meets or exceeds requirements for accreditation by local and national agencies and maintains protocol manual for ultrasound exams.
  • Review reports in EPIC to ensure procedures statuses are correct for billing purposes. Identifies accurate CPT codes and enters the correct information into the Radiology computer system and determines the diagnostic efficacy and completeness of each examination.
  • Demonstrates and assists in instruction of ultrasound technology and hospital procedures to other technical, non-professional and ancillary personnel and directly supervises the job activity of ultrasound students.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of work area and ensures that the area is properly stocked and supplied for ultrasound procedures.
  • Ensures sterile package supplies and materials are not damaged or outdated.
  • Sets up, adjusts, manipulates and controls the use of all conventional and portable ultrasound, data processing, and ancillary equipment required for diagnostic ultrasound procedures in the specific area of specialty. Performs sonography examinations, including routine measurements and calculations on all patient types.
  • In general US, assists physicians during sterile invasive procedures such as diagnostic, biopsy, paracentesis, and thoracentesis.
  • Performs a variety of related clerical tasks, answering phones, relaying messages.
  • Performs additional responsibilities as assigned

Pay Range

$34.45 - $56.49

Final salary offer will be based on the candidate's qualifications, education, experience and alignment with our organizational needs.
