Unit Overview
The staff of the Office of Research Grants (ORG) acts for the American Chemical Society in the administration of all research grant programs of the Society. The mission of the Office of Research Grants is to administer these programs so that they conform to the guidance provided in the founding documents, and at the same time have significant impact consistent with the vision for the programs provided by the ACS Board of Directors. The office administers the ACS Petroleum Research Fund (PRF), the Herman Frasch Foundation Grants in Agricultural Chemistry, the Irving S. Sigal Postdoctoral Fellowships, the Irving S. Sigal Global Mobility Awards, and the Arthur C. Cope Postdoctoral Fellows Program.

Position Summary
The program officer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing operations associated with the Arthur C. Cope Postdoctoral Fellowship, Irving S. Sigal Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Irving S. Sigal Global Mobility Award programs. This includes managing the solicitation, review, support of the grantee and awardee selection process, development and implementation of supporting activities, and the finances of the program. In addition, the program officer is responsible for documenting and communicating the impact of the programs and to work collaboratively with key partners in ACS Scientific Advancement, ACS Education, and beyond. The work involves communication, problem solving, analyzing user data, project management, and thinking conceptually and creatively.

Position Accountabilities:
1. Develops and manages program solicitation, review, selection processes, and grantee engagement for the Arthur C. Cope Postdoctoral Fellowship, Irving S. Sigal Postdoctoral Fellowship, and the Irving S. Sigal Global Mobility Award programs.
2. Partners with internal groups (such as other groups within Scientific Advancement, Education, Communications and Marketing, Membership) to enhance the visibility of and engagement with programs that support postdoctoral scholars.
3. Develops, manages, and executes career and professional development schedule for postdoctoral scholars (incl. annual in person meetings).
4. Tracks and communicates impact of programs.
5. Monitors and manages budgets (approximately $1,100,000 annually), oversees contracts and invoice payments.
6. Develops standard operating procedures for programs.
7. Completes special projects as required.

This role is based in our Washington, D.C. office. A reasonable rate of compensation for this position is between $95,000-$128,000 per year.

Education
Doctorate of Chemistry (preferred)
Experience
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in STEM is required; A minimum of two years of experience managing projects required. Strong strategic, interpersonal, analytical, written and oral communication, and organizational skills are required. Workshop facilitation experiences preferred; 3+ years of experience. (preferred)
