I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Provide basic care needs to patients and make visual observations reporting abnormalities in accordance with established procedures and policies, escalates patient observation and direct care information to patient's RN, PT/OT, APP Navigator or provider as necessary.
2. Work extensively with high-risk patients (i.e., orthopedic, surgical, and elderly) and specialty equipment utilized to mobilize these patients.
3. Use the multidisciplinary plan of care as a guide for individualized patient care and teaching as directed by nursing, APP, PT or provider. Work as a team member with care team and other healthcare workers to provide care. Identify discharge barriers and communicate.
4. Assist with early mobility according to PT/OT and nursing care plans and coordinating exercises according to provider pathways.
5. Assists physical therapist and/or nursing in providing a collaborative team approach to early mobility.

II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Current Certified Nursing Assistant and/or Medical Assistant.
3. Orthotic Fitter certification (ABCOP) within 1 year as a condition of employment.
4. BLS certification.
Preferred:
1. Certified with the National board of Orthopedic Technologists (NBCOT)..
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Knowledge of human anatomy, basic medical terminology, and rehabilitation principles.
2. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to gather information from individuals, build relationships that support collaborative work within the department and across the organization and provide exceptional service to patients.
3. Computer skills for Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Preferred:
1. Previous experience including exposure to cast application and removal and/or demonstrated ability with cast and traction setup.
2. Prior rehabilitation experience with mobility of patients.

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
