Job Summary:

The Assurance Senior Manager, Accounting Advisory & Outsourcing (AAO) serves as engagement lead for a portfolio of nonprofit clients. This position will oversee the work of BDO managers and staff performing accounting services for clients that have outsourced some or all of their accounting function to BDO. In this role, the AAO Senior Manager also serves as a business advisor to clients, functioning in a role similar to a chief financial officer or controller. The position will be responsible for managing the financial performance of their engagements, participating in the management of the practice, and assisting as requested in some business development activities.

Job Duties:



  • Manages the full-life cycle of all assigned engagements by providing technical management for all areas within the accounting function
  • Oversees client satisfaction with quality of work products, assigned staff, engagement performance, billing and issue resolution
  • Formulates recommendations to client leadership on technical accounting issues, financial accounting policies and procedures and financial management issues
  • Manages special client projects including controller and CFO interim positions, as needed
  • Identifies new opportunities to cross sell to existing clients as well as identifying new clients
  • Creates, develops and maintains strong business relationships with clients, both internal and external
  • Other duties as required


Supervisory Responsibilities:



  • Supervises the day-to-day workload and reviews work product of AAO Managers and Staff on assigned engagements
  • Ensures AAO Managers and Staff are trained on all relevant software and resources
  • Evaluates the performance of AAO Managers and Staff, and assists in the development of goals and objectives to enhance professional development
  • Delivers periodic performance feedback, and completes performance evaluations for AAO Managers and Staff
  • Acts as mentor to AAO Managers and Staff, as appropriate



Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent experience, required
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accountancy, or other relevant field, preferred


Experience:



  • Ten (10) or more years of finance and accounting experience that includes a working knowledge of nonprofit accounting and reporting requirements and cost principles, required
  • Seven (7) or more years of Strong accounting experience and well-versed in the operation of an accounting systems, required
  • Experience in preparation of project or grant related financial reports, required
  • Five (5) or more years of experience performing in a senior financial role within a nonprofit accounting environment with exposure to OMB cost principles for federal award recipients, preferred
  • Experience in designing and implementing cost allocation methodologies, preferred
  • Experience working with federal award recipients and entities subject to OMB single-audit requirements, preferred


License/Certifications:



  • CPA certification preferred


Software:



  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word, required
  • Experience utilizing industry standard accounting software such as Intacct, MAS 90, MS Dynamics, and QuickBooks, required
  • Experience with association and member management software and budgeting tools, preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Possess a consulting/advisory perspective with a focus on the customer
  • In-depth knowledge of United States generally accepted accounting principles including revenue recognition and cost allocation methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to complete Indirect Cost Rate proposals preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and apply knowledge of general accounting theories, GAAP and nonprofit accounting methodologies
  • Ability to act as primary contact and provide an executive presence on engagements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and basic research skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment with a focus on details
  • Able to interact effectively with people internally and externally at all levels
  • Capacity to effectively manage a team of professionals and delegate work assignments, as needed

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $120,000 - $170,000
Maryland Range: $120,000 - $170,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $120,000 - $170,000
