About the Department

The Cornell University Office of the University Registrar (OUR) implements and monitors many academic and administrative policies in coordination with academic units, departments, colleges, and schools to facilitate faculty teaching and student learning. The Office of the University Registrar acts as the steward of academic and student information. The Office of the Registrar champions the constant renewal of student information systems, adapts operations to changing academic needs, federal, state, and institution policies, and evaluates administrative processes for services improvements.

The Opportunity

As part of the OUR team, the Assistant University Registrar, Compliance is responsible for:

  • Lead day-to-day Federal Title IV compliance efforts by overseeing OUR's degree and enrollment reporting to the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) and National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). Serve as Cornell's point of contact to the NSC. Evaluate potential compliance risks and bring to the attention of the Associate Registrar for Compliance. Recommend solutions and mitigation strategies.
  • Lead efforts with the compliance business analyst to certify all student athletes for initial and continuing academic eligibility under applicable NCAA, Ivy League, and university regulations. Evaluate student athletes' progress-towards-degree requirements and complete transfer certification for all transfer student athletes. Submit annual academic progress and graduation success reports. Collaborate with Athletics Compliance team.
  • Serve as the primary School Certifying Official for Veterans Education benefits for all veterans and dependents. Lead compliance efforts and serve as the primary point of contact with the Veterans Administration.
  • In partnership with the Academic Records, Curriculum & Scheduling, Academic Technology, and Information Support teams participate in the analysis and management of data from the various information systems that support undergraduate, graduate, and professional academic programs.

What We Need:

For full consideration, applicants must include both a resume and cover letter with their application.

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 2 years of experience in a student services office with an in-depth understanding of student records administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience interpreting complex laws, regulations, and policies and implementing processes to maintain compliance.
  • Commitment to achieving and maintaining compliance, especially Federal Title IV Financial Aid.
  • Exceptional reasoning, analytical, data management, and communication skills.
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting large volumes of complex,
  • Experience developing communication plans, writing and editing process documents and procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and quickly adapt to new technologies, business processes, and procedures.
  • Understanding of student records administration.Knowledge of current records, registration, and enrollment policies and processes, and academic policy trends.
  • Understanding of FERPA and knowledge of privacy and confidentiality rules as they relate to student information.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to establish effective and productive working relationships.
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Demonstrated skill in understanding of cultural differences.

If you have all those things, great! We have a few more things that we would prefer you to have, but it's ok if you don't:

  • Experience working with the NSC and NSLDS, and with Federal Title IV Financial Aid compliance. Cornell student service experience.
  • Experience interpreting NCAA eligibility rules and policies; use of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Student Records and the Cornell student data mart.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Campus Solutions.
