Our Contract Services offers a service portfolio, which includes maintenance services, process optimization, system upgrades and modifications throughout the material handling system's life cycle at warehousing. The Contract Service Manager is responsible for the Services Operations for our material handling system at the respective site. Provides leadership, management and direction to a maintenance team to achieve safety, quality, productivity, cost objectives, along with meeting customer service goals.

POSTION SUMMARY:

As a Vanderlande Maintenance Technician IIIyou will be responsible for the preparation, execution and reporting of maintenance activities, and for solving errors within the customer's material handling system.

Essential Functions (Job Duties and Responsibilities):

Responsibilities:

Working on electrical, instrument, mechanical and control systems which involve the installation, modification, maintenance and repairs of Vanderlande equipment. These responsibilities will also include calibration and testing of the above-mentioned equipment. Regular corrective and preventative maintenance tasks will also form part of the technician's duties, as per maintenance plan schedules and shift roster. It will also comprise of the involvement of the improvement of existing structures and techniques, under the Operations & Maintenance Manager, Shift Leader and/or leading hand.

Tasks and duties include, but not limited to:

  • Repairing, maintaining, calibrating and operating Vanderlande equipment
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving on Vanderlande equipment and resolving jams
  • Ordering and maintaining inventory of spare equipment if/when necessary
  • Monitoring Vanderlande equipment and advising client/customer staff on proper machine process and operation
  • Respond methodically to all error notifications, errors, alarms, warnings and complaints on Vanderlande equipment and controlling flows and flow disturbances
  • Be able to execute instructions as directed and work independently or as part of a team
  • Work in unison with suppliers and sub-contractors in the maintenance and repairs of Vanderlande equipment where required
  • Work in collaboration with off-site Vanderlande technical support via telephone, email, etc. where necessary to achieve optimal machine performance
  • Prepare and update daily administrative duties, as set out by the Operations & Maintenance Manager and/or Shift leader
  • Ensure that all activities, breakdowns and incidents are clearly documented
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of all Vanderlande equipment and attend training courses
  • Ensures the transfer of equipment knowledge to other staff.
  • Take ownership to keep the workplace clean and tidy and observe OH&S procedures at all times
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) when working at all times
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in a safe manner and comply with company policies and procedures
  • Require to undertake any other reasonable duty as instructed by the Operations & Maintenance Manager and/or Shift leader
  • Take care of company issued tools and report any abuse, miss-use and theft of company equipment and tools.
  • Report any breakages of company issued tools and equipment to your manager for replacement to be issued where reasonable.
  • Any lost or recklessly broken tools will be replaced by the responsible person.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Experience of supporting automated systems with a good level of electro- mechanical skills
  • Electrical fault-finding and fault-rectification skills, including the replacement and configuration of field devices (inverters, sensors, scanners etc)
  • Mechanical fault-finding and fault-rectification skills (gearboxes / bearings / sprockets / drives etc)
  • Experience with electrical schematics / wiring diagrams
  • Skilled in the use of standard electrical test instruments.
  • Relevant vocational and / or technical qualifications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Warehouse Operations experience
  • Conveyor services or material handling services experience

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position supporting a 24/7 operation site.

Travel:

Occasional travel in North America is required.

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

The work environment/physical requirements described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to handle or feel and talk or hear.

The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Although a Controls Engineer predominantly works in the office, they also spend time at a customer site, where they sometimes handle packages or automatic equipment such as conveyor systems.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is sometimes exposed the baggage / package handling systems, mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. The Controls Support Engineer will encounter mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment. Ear protection should be worn.

This is a full-time, nonexempt position, eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent. Initial hourly rate of $28.00 to $30.00.
