Duties and Responsibilities
The Assistant Dean is responsible for coordinating, managing, and executing the day-to-day operations of the Quinlan School of Business graduate programs, under the supervision of the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Faculty Affairs and in collaboration with cross-functional teams (e.g., Graduate and Professional Enrollment Management, Graduate Program Directors, Academic Advising, and Career Services).
The Assistant Dean of Graduate Operations is a strategic decision-making partner, using a rich knowledge of higher education policies, operations, and procedures, to support transformational graduate education across a range of professional programs and specializations, including MBA programs (e.g., Part-time MBA, Executive MBA), Master's programs (e.g., Marketing, Finance, Business Analytics), graduate certificates, dual degrees (e.g., MBA/MS), accelerated Bachelor's/Master's programs, and other executive and professional education: https://www.luc.edu/quinlan/academics/graduatedegrees/
This is a staff role with no teaching or research requirements. Each Quinlan graduate business program has an assigned faculty Graduate Program Director (supervised by the Senior Associate Dean for Graduate Programs and Faculty Affairs) who partner with staff Assistant/Associate Directors (supervised by the Assistant Dean of Graduate Operations).
Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversees the operational coordination of the graduate business programs and serving as the primary internal point of contact for all operational processes including enrollment marketing, enrollment management, recruitment, admissions, yield, course scheduling and registration, new student orientation, study abroad, international student services, veteran student services, career services, and financial aid support.
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates Quinlan graduate business staff including the Assistant/Associate Graduate Program Directors and additional office staff to ensure their professional development and performance in alignment with University, School, and Departmental goals.
  • Supports the Senior Associate Dean and the faculty Graduate Program Directors in providing vision, direction, and strategic innovation for the Quinlan graduate business programs.
  • Orchestrates and motivates collaboration in cross-functional teams across the School and University to drive graduate business student recruitment, retention, and success.
  • Answers inquiries, ensures confidentiality, makes appropriate referrals, and resolves problems, especially those that require the interpretation, explanation, and justification of administrative policies and procedures related to graduate student affairs.
  • Provides professional guidance for the Quinlan graduate business programs budget.
  • Serves on the Dean's Leadership Team
  • Serves on University and Quinlan Committees and represents the Quinlan graduate business programs to the University community and external stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Master's degree required; Doctorate (e.g., Ph.D., Ed.D.) preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in higher education; experience in business education preferred.

Qualifications

  • The candidate should possess strong leadership, administrative, budget management, operational, communication, organization, and leadership skills, particularly with regard to professional education.
  • Proven track record of success in managing and leading complex teams.
  • Ability to shift hours occasionally to support the three or four select external events that are in this position's portfolio, especially if those events are held in the evening or on weekends.
  • Strong understanding of academic policies, procedures, mentoring and guiding a culturally diverse student body, and demonstrated experience advising students and graduate faculty on highly complex, confidential matters.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, adaptable, and service-oriented, with strong collaborative skills for teamwork and consensus building among staff, faculty, and students.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing daily environment and remain goal oriented.
  • Commitment to student success and excellence in graduate education.
  • Understanding of key processes in higher education, including student admissions, registration and records, financial aid, and funding processes.
