QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

The qualifications and skill requirements for this position include:

  • Proven work experience and the ability to perform general cleaning tasks competently, thoroughly and efficiently;
  • Proven knowledge in general custodial responsibilities including the ability to utilize various cleaning materials and equipment in a safe, proper, and efficient manner;
  • Proven ability to use custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers and scrubbers, mops, and other cleaning devices and associated products while promoting a safe work and learning environment;
  • Possess the ability to work positively, cooperatively and supportively as a member of a custodial team;
  • Interact pleasantly, professionally, diplomatically, and positively with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students in a professional academic setting;
  • Computer literate and possess the ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to take direction from their immediate supervisor, constructive criticism with a positive attitude, and respond positively and supportively to any change in daily or building assignments;
  • Be flexible with respect to daily assignments and be a self-starter and work with minimal supervision at all times.
  • Valid Florida driver's license;
  • The following is preferred:
    • Associate's degree from an accredited institution.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential job functions and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning and minor maintenance of buildings externally and internally to include classrooms, hallways, stairwells, restrooms, walls, carpets, floors, doors, light fixtures, entrance areas, cigarette and trash receptacles, classroom and dinning tables, chairs, doors, windows and glass panes.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The specific duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleaning and minor maintenance duties such as sweeping, cleaning of windows, mopping, vacuuming, emptying trash, cleaning classrooms, white boards, dusting and wiping desks, the thorough cleaning and sanitization of restrooms, classrooms, offices, hallways and cafe and public areas;
  • Additional duties include floor maintenance, such as scrubbing, waxing, and buffing; carpet cleaning, shampooing, moving and rearranging furniture, setting up banquet tables and delivering garbage bags to dumpsters;
  • Politely and helpfully providing faculty and students with directions and assistance regarding general campus and classroom location or information is an integral part of the duties for this position;
  • Since the College and campus are dynamic in nature, this custodial position will positively embrace all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their immediate supervisor or the Director of Physical Plant/Maintenance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical skills required include the ability to operate cleaning equipment and also the ability to walk, bend and stand for extended periods of time. Lifting, reaching, stooping, climbing stairs and ladders, handling powered custodial equipment and carry items occasionally in excess of (50) pounds is also an expectation and requirement. The employee must be in good physical condition in order to do the type of work required. The position also requires the knowledge, experience and manual dexterity to operate such standard custodial machines such as buffers, floor polishers, and extractors. IRSC expects all of its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
