The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a Laboratory Attendant to join the Baker Institute for Animal Health. The individual will prepare glassware and related materials for use in biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, and cell culture laboratories. Key duties include daily cleaning and sterilization of items, troubleshooting equipment issues, and organizing the facility. Additional responsibilities encompass ordering supplies, maintaining inventory in the stockroom and laundry, and plugging pipettes.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • The individual must complete necessary chemical safety training at Cornell within the first two weeks of employment.
  • The position demands a commitment to maintaining high quality control standards.
  • Ability to keep workflow efficient while ensuring the facility remains clean and organized.
  • Must have and maintain a valid NYS driver's license with no limitations or restrictions that would hinder the operation of Cornell-owned vehicles.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, from elevated positions, and on ladders for extended periods.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and provide excellent customer service.
  • Capable of lifting or moving up to 50 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Six months of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in a research environment with familiarity of scientific research equipment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory sterilization equipment and general lab procedures
  • Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
  • This is a part-time 20-hour per week position
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.

This position is part of the United Auto Workers (UAW) union. The current rate of pay is listed in the collective bargaining agreement and starts at $21.81
