Job Title: Accounting Manager
Clearance Required: N/A
Work Location: Hybrid; Washington DC Metro Area (Onsite a couple of times a month)

Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified Accounting Manager that will be responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of the accounting department, ensuring compliance with government regulations and contract requirements. This role will need to occasionally work in-person a couple of times a month. They will monitor and analyze accounting data, produce financial reports, and ensure accounting methods are in conformance with GAAP and FAR, and that practices align with policies and principles to maintain the financial integrity of the company.

Key responsibilities:



  • Accounting management & reporting:

    • Oversee daily operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger, labor accounting and payroll processing. Ensure all entries are in conformance with GAAP
    • Monitor and analyze accounting data, producing accurate financial reports and statements
    • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports


  • Compliance with government contracting regulations:

    • Ensure compliance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and other government contract requirements
    • Prepare and submit Incurred Cost Submissions (ICS) and other government-required reports
    • Manage government audits and interface with DCAA (Defense Contract Audit Agency) or other auditing agencies


  • Budgeting & forecasting:

    • Develop and support management of annual budgets and financial forecasts
    • Analyze variances and report to management with recommendations for corrective actions


  • Audit & internal controls:

    • Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits
    • Maintain books and records to document transactions in accordance with government regulations
    • Maintain established internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflow. Recommend updates to practices to improve control environment


  • Contract administration support:

    • Ensure proper allocation and management of contract costs
    • Monitor and report updates to contract funding, billing, and collections


  • Leadership & management:

    • Hire, supervise and mentor accounting staff
    • Evaluate the performance of accounting personnel and provide training and development opportunities
    • Manage staff work assignments to align day-to-day operations with weekly, monthly and annual Department deliverable schedule


  • Process improvement:

    • Implement and improve accounting systems, processes, and software to enhance efficiency and compliance
    • Collaborate with IT and other departments to ensure effective system integrations and compliance with government requirements




Required Qualifications:



  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA desired.


  • Experience/Skills:

    • Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and government contract accounting standards (FAR, CAS)
    • Proficient in accounting software platforms (e.g., Deltek Costpoint, UKG, Focus Point) is preferred, and Microsoft Office Suite required
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.




Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $110,000 - $140,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
