This key role leads the development and implementation of safety, health, environmental, and risk management programs across multiple campus operations. It includes ensuring regulatory compliance, assisting EH&S programs, overseeing insurance processes, and mitigating risks to the University's operations. The successful candidate will maintain insurance coverage based on the University's risk appetite and assist the AVP for Safety and Risk/SVP/CFO with relevant data and information for decisions related to the insurance portfolio. The candidate will drive continuous improvement in EH&S practices while ensuring a safe, compliant, cost-reduction and resilient work environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management:

  • Lead risk management processes across multiple campus operations, identifying and mitigating risks to ensure continuity and resilience.
  • Collaborate with departments to address special risk needs, such as worker's compensation, builder's risk insurance, and surety bonds.
  • Develop risk finance solutions to enhance the University's operational resilience.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance and address emerging risks in environmental and safety management.

Insurance Coordination:

  • Serve as the primary contact for insurance management across campus operations, including sourcing information, completing applications, and liaising with brokers to ensure accurate and timely insurance quotes.
  • Aid in the insurance renewal process, collaborating with the SVP/CFO to align coverage with the University's needs.
  • Review insurance quotes, policies, and vendor certificates to ensure proper risk coverage and alignment with contracts.
  • Ensure timely reporting of claims to insurance carriers and follow-up communication for proper documentation.

Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) Specialist:

  • Assist with the development, implementation, and management of the EH&S management system across campuses, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Support safety management processes, improving safety programs to align with regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Assist with environmental programs, including hazardous waste, air pollution, and stormwater management.
  • Help develop and execute training programs to increase staff awareness and foster a culture of safety.
  • Coordinate safety inspections, risk assessments, and audits across campuses to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives for safety and health performance.

Continuous Improvement and Leadership:

  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives, promoting Lean practices, Kaizen, and safety culture transformation.
  • Provide leadership in engaging employees in safety and risk management activities across campuses.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure a cohesive approach to EH&S, risk management, and insurance.
  • Support operations in improving safety outcomes and mitigating risks.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Risk Management, or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, ideally in a manufacturing, academic, or multi-campus environment with experience in safety, environmental compliance, risk management, and insurance evaluation and coordination.

Required licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:

  • Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or similar are preferred.
  • Experience in Lean Six Sigma Project Management is preferred.

Required skills, knowledge, abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of environmental and safety regulations, with the ability to implement and manage compliance programs across multiple campuses.
  • Experience with risk management strategies and practices, including insurance coordination and claims management across various locations.
  • Excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders at multiple campuses.
  • Proven ability to lead and influence cross-functional teams to achieve safety and risk management goals across various operations.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs while ensuring compliance and continuous improvement across multiple campuses.
