THE POSITION

Utilize your experience in the food service industry and become a Corrections Food Service Instructor at the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Houtzdale! We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic person to join our team and help in our mission to reduce criminal behavior by providing individualized treatment and education to offenders. The vocational training you provide in this position will help inmates successfully re-enter their communities after their release. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Corrections Food Service Instructor, you will lead inmates by assigning, participating in, and reviewing routine and specialized tasks performed in the areas of food pre-preparation, production, service, and baking through on-the-job vocational training. Your duties will include instructing the inmates in the preparation of meals and ensuring that the meals are prepared and served in a timely manner. You can expect to inspect all food service areas, equipment, and food for conformance with established safety and sanitation standards. In this position, you will need to ensure proper control over inmates by enforcing custody and security regulations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM, with rotating days off.
  • This position is eligible for full benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable. Please Note: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,986.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience in food preparation, production, or service of a variety of complete meal menus in an institutional food service operation, food catering service, restaurant, or in a similar large-scale food production operation; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
