Job Summary

Under general supervision from, and in collaboration with, the Directors of the Health Professions Advising (HPA) unit and the Health Professions Postbaccalaureate Program (HPPB), the TEMP Pre-Health Advisor (PHA) provides comprehensive advising support for students seeking information, resources, academic preparation, and application coaching for post-graduate health profession degree programs. In collaboration with college advising units and other UC Davis student-facing organizations, the PHA coaches across the wide spectrum of student advising needs from the early stages of pre-applicants to students who are actively engaged in the application cycle.

Leveraging extensive knowledge of the application and admission standards for the range of health professions, the PHA assesses academic credentials, experiences, and individual circumstances to aid students in making informed decisions in pursuing a health career. The PHA guides students to resources for test prep workshops, campus tutoring resources, writing resources, or their college advising unit as appropriate. The PHA advises students and makes appropriate referrals when barriers, distractions, or other complications impact (or threaten to impact) the student's health profession career goals.

The PHA must stay abreast of current admission application practices, including specialized knowledge of admission criteria, processes, goals, and practices for the range of health profession programs.
