Job Summary

GateWay Community College is hiring for a great new Healthcare Student Success Navigator position. This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2025. This position will report to the Nursing Department/Division Chair and provide strategic and operational planning initiatives to support nursing and healthcare student success. This individual is responsible for collaborating with students, faculty, and staff to identify risks and create individualized student success pathways to address students' academic needs and support academic achievement. This individual will also develop and offer student success courses/workshops to foster student skills, knowledge, and academic success. Effective communication and collaboration with students, faculty, administrators, and other campus departments whose mission is focused on student success is expected. This position also requires theoretical and clinical nursing knowledge as this person may also provide theoretical, clinical, laboratory, or simulation instruction to nursing and healthcare students from diverse backgrounds.

Essential Functions

  • Monitor student success outcomes in healthcare programs.
  • Facilitate the development of student remediation programs.
  • Communicate with students (1:1 or small groups) to identify risks and create a pathway to success based on each student's identified needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and students to develop an Individualized Student Success Pathway (ISSP) to support academic achievement.
  • Offer student success courses/workshops to develop skills and knowledge for student success.
  • Implement new student orientations to enhance student readiness for success.
  • Monitor licensure pass rates and follow up with repeaters to offer ongoing support.
  • Connect students with on-campus support services/specialists as needed, including tutoring, Counseling, DRS, etc.
  • Develop programs and activities to enhance student engagement, motivation, and sense of community.
  • Foster relationships between students, faculty, staff, and other resources to create a supportive campus culture.
  • Work closely with faculty to identify students experiencing barriers to academic success, identify at-risk students, and provide early interventions.
  • Collaborate with success and retention committees across Maricopa to support student success and retention initiatives (4DX, etc).
  • Supervise and facilitate student learning for a diverse population of students in clinical, simulation, laboratory, or classroom settings
  • Maintain and enhance knowledge of the subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with new trends and developments in healthcare through attendance at conferences, seminars, and/or workshops.
  • Maintain office hours; serve on and participate in department, college, and district-wide committees and activities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree plus three (3) years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care

    OR a Masters degree in nursing and two (2) years of experience as a professional nurse providing direct patient care.

    2. Must hold an Arizona registered nurse license in good standing or multi-state privilege to practice in Arizona by the first day of employment.

    3. Must be able to meet health and safety requirements, including CPR certification, Fingerprint Clearance Card, and drug testing.

    Desired Qualifications

    A. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or higher nursing degree.
    B. Three (3) or more years as a registered nurse providing direct patient care.
    C. Experience as nursing faculty working directly with students in lab, simulation, clinical or theory.
    D. Experience working with student success initiatives as an academic advisor or student success specialist.
    E. Experience with simulation technology (e.g. Laerdal, Gaumard, and CAE manikins)

    Special Working Conditions

    * Travel to campus during the interview/selection process will be at the candidate's own expense
    * May be required to travel to any MCCCD locations
    * May be required to work evenings and weekends
    * May be required to instruct at Washington or 18th Street Campus and/or teach days, evenings or weekends
    * May require prolonged periods of viewing a computer screen
    * May require lifting objects weighing up to 50lbs
    * Possession of a valid Level I DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card required
    * Possible exposure to blood-borne pathogens and other infectious diseases
    * Assignment may extend past the normal academic semesters
