JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Office of Veterans Programs under the Office of the Vice Provost for Educational Equity is seeking a qualified Veterans Counselor/School Certifying Official to serve University Park and Commonwealth Campus students. This in-person position, housed at the University Park campus, is primarily responsible for the accurate and expedient certification of Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) educational benefits for Penn State military-connected students. In addition, this position provides counseling and assists with the development and delivery of programming for military-connected students in financial, academic, and/or personal matters, including the transition to the civilian/University environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency within the following requirements:

  • Monitor and adhere to the frequently evolving VA regulations and procedures regarding the certification of educational benefits
  • Work within Penn State and VA software systems to perform required VA certification and reporting
  • Maintain effective liaison relationships with Commonwealth Campus Veteran Points of Contact, campus and community stakeholders, the Pennsylvania Department of Education State Approving Agency (SAA), the VA, and other agencies as required to ensure consistent support of military-connected students and compliance in reporting
  • Assist in advising Commonwealth Campus School Certifying Officials on issues including regulations governing the various VA education certification procedures, enrollment monitoring procedures, and organizational suggestions
  • Engage in training opportunities designed to enhance the understanding of the VA's various educational benefits, certification process, and the responsibilities of and support offered by the VA, the Department of Defense (DOD), and the SAA.

This position will be filled at the Intermediate Professional level. This position requires a firm understanding of basic math calculations, keen attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to changes in regulations and processes. Minimally requires an Associate's degree, but a Master's degree is preferred in counselor education, adult education, psychology, social work, education, higher education administration, or a related discipline, plus two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Veteran or military affiliation is preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00

Pursuant to the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act and the Pennsylvania Act of 1988, Penn State publishes a combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report (ASR). The ASR includes crime statistics and institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters.
