Job Summary

The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Department Research Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating research projects from inception through implementation, ensuring project objectives are achieved on time and within budget. This role supports the Principal Investigator in developing project scope, timelines, and work plans, coordinating resources, and managing stakeholder relationships to facilitate seamless project execution.

  • Oversees daily operations of research project activities, including workforce development (WD), technology transfer, and providing specialized technical expertise.
  • Prepares a wide range of materials and technical reports for meetings, workshops, and recruitment events, and coordinates all travel arrangements for the Principal Investigator as needed.
  • Compiles and analyzes reports, including financial documents, to highlight progress, identify adverse trends, and propose actionable recommendations or conclusions.
  • Develops and implements project scope, objectives, work plans, timelines, and strategies while monitoring progress toward goals and ensuring updates are effectively communicated to the Principal Investigator and stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with Principal Investigators (PIs) to document project milestones accurately and submits regular updates to stakeholders, funders, and leadership teams.
  • Partners with external evaluators to establish program survey objectives, design survey questions, and oversee survey distribution and data collection.
  • Conducts qualitative and quantitative data analysis to inform program improvements and make recommendations for enhancements based on evaluation findings
  • Manages recruitment, onboarding, and training of student research assistants, federal work-study students, OPS employees, and/or Graduate Assistants, including reviewing and approving timesheets.
  • Plans and organizes professional development workshops and project-led events.
  • Coordinates the onboarding, placement, and support of program participants into internship roles with partner organizations.
  • Acts as a liaison with student organizations to coordinate joint events and foster collaborations that expand the programs reach and impact.
  • Oversees purchasing, procurement, and budget-related tasks for project supplies and ensures compliance with financial protocols.
  • Maintains strong public relations by serving as a liaison between university administration, staff, faculty, and external stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, with the understanding that the omission of specific tasks does not preclude the assignment of additional responsibilities relevant to the position.
  • Manages financial data and provides budget support for the Principal Investigator, including assisting with budget development, projections, and recommendations.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience; OR six (6) years of relevant training and/or military experience ; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience.
