Overview

Performs a wide range of departmental duties including fielding phone calls, scheduling, filing, record keeping, greeting patients. Also including direct and indirect patient care activities, which are essential to providing comprehensive care to patients and their families. Ability to assist technologist with positioning patients of same gender in MRI. All duties are performed according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures. Significant use of the Hospital Information System as necessary. Able to provide appropriate care for patients served, regardless of age. Demonstrates outstanding customer service and the key behaviors outlined in the Hospital 's Core Success Factors in all interactions.
The medical staff determines the qualifications of the radiology staff that use equipment and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Performs all required clerical/secretarial functions mandated by the department.
    • 1.1 Schedules appointments for patients with consideration to the type of exam to assure continuity.
  • 2. Screens and refers all incoming calls and department visitors to ensure that accurate and timely departmental communication is facilitated and that the department is presented in a positive manner.
    • 2.1 Answers telephones within three (3) rings in a courteous manner, identifying self and department at all times.
  • 3. Maintains confidentiality of information of the Department.
    • 3.1 Maintains confidentiality of departmental information according to established procedures with no reported errors.
  • 4. Maintains proper level of departmental inventory supplies to allow staff to complete assigned responsibilities.
    • 4.1 Monitors supplies on a bi-weekly basis to ensure adequacy of inventory and within budgeted levels.
  • 5. Notifies supervisor of workload status which requires either reassignments or Contributes to hospital cost containment via productivity and efficient operation.
    • 5.1 Provides input on hiring and orients and assists in training of the clerical support staff of the department.
  • 6. Responsible for promoting the Greenwich Hospital Patient/Guest Relations Program.
    • 6.1 Provides positive supportive communications to co-workers and department visitors as demonstrated by supervisor's observations and no verified complaints during the review period.
  • 7. Following established procedures, completes routine interviews and patient screenings to obtain required
    patient data and demographic information that will assist the technologist in the assessment, planning, and
    evaluation of patient needs for the specific diagnostic imaging exam or procedure.
    • 7.1 Interviews patients, collects and documents data collected on appropriate forms.
  • 8. Functions as a member of the care team to support the set up and preparation of patients undergoing
    radiology procedures. Has knowledge of exams and preps in order to facilitate patient flow through the
    section.
    • 8.1 Provides basic explanation of routine imaging exams and section specific procedures to patients and
      families within established parameters

Qualifications

EDUCATION

High school graduate required; familiarity with computer-data entry system.

EXPERIENCE

Preferred six (6) months exposure in a Radiology reception area. Exposure to MIS or RIS computer system/P.C. and/or terminal experience preferred.

LICENSURE

None required

SPECIAL SKILLS

Familiarity with computer-data entry systems. Able to handle patients graciously, telephone etiquette. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REPORT ability to see clearly at 20 feet or more. Ability to learn and demonstrate competency in basic patient screening and patient care procedures
within specialty area, according to established protocols. Ability to prioritize and adjust work plans based on the
needs of the patient, the section, and the Radiology team.

PHYSICAL DEMAND

Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Subject to many interruptions. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. May be required to work a flexible schedule. Helps move patient to exam room or table as needed. May have to aid in Transport when needed.
