Purpose of Position |
Reporting to the Director of Campus Recreation, the Assistant Director of Programs is responsible for overall administrative leadership of the Intramural & Sports Club program, Fitness programs, Outdoor Recreation programs, and outdoor facilities. Primary responsibilities include 1) Program Administration, 2) Facility Management, and 3) Senior Leadership Team Responsibilities |
Primary Responsibilities |
Program Administration -60% of the time
- Overall supervision and development of all Department of Campus Recreation programs, including Intramural Sports, Sport Clubs, Fitness, and Outdoor Recreation.
- Supervise, train, develop, motivate, and evaluate the Fitness Coordinator and the Graduate Assistants for the Sport Programs, Outdoor Recreation and Fitness areas.
- Conduct individual meetings with direct reports at least every two weeks to discuss programs and departmental issues.
- Direct supervision of the Fitness Coordinator.
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive Intramural Sports program that includes team, dual, and individual sports leagues, tournaments, and special events.
- Provide leadership and oversight of sport club program to include risk management, fiscal management, travel, and adherence to policies and procedures.
- Create and serve as a mentor for the Sport Club Council.
- Ensure that all programs operate within departmental and university guidelines for risk management, fiscal operations, and personnel administration.
- Manage computerized registration system (IM Leagues) for all activities.
- Provide onsite supervision for Intramural activities conducted in Campus Recreation's facilities.
- Recruit, hire, train, schedule, supervise, motivate, and evaluate game officials, scorekeepers, and intramural supervisors. Conduct staff training at the beginning of each sport. Provide officials with ongoing feedback concerning mechanics, positioning, and decision-making.
- Responsible for creating and monitoring program budgets, including payroll, operating expenses, and revenues. Operate programs within established budget totals for expenses and revenues.
- Monitor and enter bi-weekly payroll information and operating expenses on departmental budget tracking logs.
- Purchase necessary equipment and supplies for programs. Ensure all associated equipment is operated, managed, and maintained safely.
- Track and record participation numbers for all activities. Conduct program assessment surveys for each activity. Create surveys (online surveys included) for specific programs/events.
- Coordinate with the Associate Director for Facilities and other departments on campus to schedule facilities for programs and events.
- Develop and implement a yearly marketing plan for programs, including face-to-face visits with student groups.
- Manage program website to reflect current facility information and schedules.
Facility Management -30% of the time
- Review and revise policies and procedures relating to facility reservation/rental and usage. Ensure facility usage/rental policies are enforced.
- Develop, apply, and revise rental fee structure for use of outdoor facilities. Prepare and justify fee proposals.
- Responsible for monitoring outdoor facility budgets, including payroll, operating expenses, and revenues. Operate facilities within established budget totals for expenses and revenues.
- Review facility reservation requests for all Campus Recreation outdoor facilities (IM Field Complex, Sand Volleyball, Basketball cts). Schedule space in the facilities for on-campus based on established departmental priorities.
- Obtain required paperwork (contracts, insurance, etc.) from rental groups and process rental invoices.
- Purchase necessary equipment and supplies for outdoor facilities. Ensure that all associated equipment is operated, managed, and maintained safely.
- Track and record participation/attendance numbers for all facilities.
- Develop and implement yearly marketing plans for outdoor facilities.
- Coordinate with the Assistant Director of Marketing to set and reach revenue projections for outdoor facility rentals.
Serve on Senior Leadership Team - 10% of the time
- Support the Director with the department's overall management, including strategic planning, personnel management, financial projections and planning, and department assessment.
- Foster teamwork, collaboration, and positive working relationships within the Campus Recreation department.
- Develop and implement unit and departmental goals.
- Serve on division and university committees.
- Represent department at division, university, and community events.
- Develop and cultivate collaborative working relationships with university departments, student groups, and community organizations.
- Assist with student employee training, development, and recognition programs.

Qualifications |
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field.
