Primary Responsibilities


The candidate must have a background in environmental and related infrastructure development services pertaining to the transmission, renewables, pipelines, and emerging technologies. The position will focus on environmental planning, documentation, permitting, and compliance strategy development and execution for multiple projects and programs across HDR's portfolio of projects and clients in these industries. The position encompasses five primary roles:



  • Senior Technical Advisor/Subject Matter Expert
  • Quality Control Reviewer
  • Client Development, Client Management and Business Planning
  • Staff Mentor
  • Project Manager (as needed)



In the role of Senior Environmental Scientist, responsibilities will include:



  • Plan and advise medium- to large-size environmental planning and compliance projects for transmission, renewables, pipelines, and emerging technologies, and other programs as identified
  • Prepare, plan and analyze/review Route and Site Permit applications, state EA/EIS, feasibility studies/critical issues analyses, and similar reports/documents
  • Accomplish work independently and through working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams which may include engineers, planners, environmental scientists, attorneys, and real estate experts
  • Preparing and monitoring scopes and budgets for environmental projects/programs
  • Support regional or national projects in specific areas of technical expertise
  • Be involved in public participation and agency coordination
  • Support development of consistent technical quality across a program
  • Mentor for junior and mid-level technical staff
  • Involvement in business development and client management activities including, scope and fee development, preparation of proposals and presentation delivery.
  • Serve as Project Manager on projects, including developing and managing budgets, schedules, and quality of products, as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environment Science or closely related field
  • 10 years experience in complex environmental planning/compliance projects
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the NEPA process
  • Experience managing large, complex EIS documents for transportation, large facility, land management, or other infrastructure projects
  • Technical expertise in the design, implementation, interpretation and presentation of data for environmental studies and investigations in specialized discipline
  • Proficient with MS Office
  • Self-starter with excellent writing and communication skills
  • Strong conceptual, organizational, problem-solving and research abilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Staff management experience beneficial

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) Minnesota: $50 - $94 per hour
