Position Description:

Under general supervision, works as part of a multidisciplinary team providing service and support to the center. Determines and performs appropriate bioinformatic analysis of data generated through high complexity techniques. Works with multidisciplinary development teams to develop new methodology and tools for analysis, and/or to define improvements for existing systems and tools.

Primary Functions

  • Develops, implements, refines and optimizes bioinformatic workflows and analytical tools for analyzing and visualizing NGS and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics data.
  • Adapts standard bioinformatics tools, visualization packages, and NGS database/annotation resources for research projects to independently and accurately perform routine analysis.
  • Performs validation of new procedures, protocols, software, and translational medicine projects under the direction of Bioinformatics Analyst III.
  • Independently performs routine bioinformatics analyses, including differential expression analysis, clustering, pathway enrichment, and integration of multi-omics datasets.
  • Works closely with multidisciplinary research teams to deliver actionable insights and support experimental design through computational analyses.
  • Contributes to publications by providing figures, tables, and text to accurately illustrate analytical methods & results.
  • Validates new computational methods and pipelines for translational research projects, ensuring compliance with institutional standards, and NIH standards, and project-specific needs
  • Operates and troubleshoots key analytic tools; operates and maintains essential bioinformatics software and computational pipelines, troubleshooting tools and scripts as needed to ensure smooth project progress.
  • Operates, calibrates, maintains, and troubleshoots equipment.
  • Performs other duties as needed or indicated by Supervisor.

Position Requirements:

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's degree

Minimum Required Experience: 2 years

Preferred Education: Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Genetics, or Biology

Preferred Experience: Experience working with multi-omic data analyses including genomic, proteomic, single-cell transcriptomic, and/or metabolomic analysis preferred.

Field: STEM field

Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Knowledge of technical, business, consultation, project management, and cultural awareness.

Basic understanding of biology, chemistry, and mathematics

Data utilization, complex problem solving, critical thinking, resource management, and writing skills.
