Job Description

Position Summary:

The Personal Investment and Retirement Consulting (PIRC) provides investment and retirement education to participants in NRECA's defined benefit and defined contribution plans. We are seeking a new team member from the financial services industry to manage and lead 10 - 12 investment and retirement planners. You would be responsible for initial and ongoing training and the development and expansion of that team's knowledge and expertise in the NRECA-sponsored defined benefit and defined contribution plans. Your responsibilities would also require knowledge and practice of human resources and compensation best practices, as well as the cooperative business model. The selected candidate will travel to review and assist their team 60 - 80% of the year, as well as occasionally cover for a team member, potentially visiting up to 48 states over a career on the team, primarily to rural and suburban communities in those states.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Explores ways enhancements within the current educational framework to grow financial education services penetration and attract/retain pension assets to the increased benefit of plan participants.
  • Provides leadership to the department including setting clear expectations/goals/objectives; providing timely feedback, praise, coaching and recognition; promptly addressing performance or employee relations issues in accordance with NRECA policy; upgrading the skill set and effectiveness of the staff; and providing the materials, equipment and information required to support the success of the department.
  • Provides technical expertise to the Planners i.e., tracks their workflow, including satisfactory visits to Cooperatives, timely completion of asset allocation plans and their follow-up, and referrals to Planners for written retirement plans and other services.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve workflow quality and efficiency. Coaches the team on best practices for calendar management, providing participants with one-on-one education, utilizing the client relationship management database, and ensuring that PIRC procedures are being followed.
  • Maintains a comprehensive knowledge base of NRECA's policies and procedures, pension plans and health and welfare plans; the latest legal and business developments in the areas of retirement/investment planning, education funding, personal portfolio management, securities, life insurance/annuities, tax laws and estate planning issues; as well as Social Security and Medicare.

* Required Qualifications and Skills :

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, economics or accounting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and additional experience.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the financial services industry consulting individuals on financial planning issues; managing relationships or participating in team structures to manage relationships; managing a diverse and dispersed staff.
  • Possess or be in the process of completing a relevant professional designation, such as CFP, CRC, ChFC or CEBS. Bachelor's degree in the arts, sciences or business required
  • Experience as a manager and leader of people.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in the financial planning side of the financial services industry.

Essential Physical Requirements:
* The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
* Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for light work.
