Strategy Director (Directs & Sites Procurement, FFM Procurement)

Location: US, UK, Belgium, Poland

About the Role:

The Strategy Director will contribute to the develop of functional strategy and execution. This role will provide strategic support to a Vice President(s) in Procurement across a wide array of responsibilities and initiatives and be a key member of a GPLT-1 Leadership team. Frequent leadership of or participation in cross-functional teams is a core part of this role. Role requires significant amount of internal engagement, utilizing strong interpersonal skills, influence management and change management. He/she will implement and ensure execution of key initiatives against timeline and deliverables, including identifying bottlenecks, resolving issues, and driving towards effective and standardized completion.

Key responsibilities:

As Strategy Director and Chief-of-Staff for a Vice President in Global Procurement:

  • Operating in a fast-paced environment that requires ability to seamlessly shift across a wide variety of responsibilities. Act as a trusted business partner providing high degree of responsiveness and attention to detail across a wide variety of topics and priorities, driving the organization to focus on the most impactful and critical activities. Prepare and facilitate GPLT-1 Leadership Team meetings. Lead and provide input into GSK Leadership Team (GLT) presentations, and senior leader engagements; coordinate high quality preparation for key CPO and LT meetings within procurement and with stakeholders/cross functional teams.
  • Facilitate transformation efforts; partner closely with GPLT to drive change management across a complex function of 500+ colleagues geographically dispersed across 50+ countries. In addition to integration, ongoing efforts will include ways-of-working transformation (e.g., business process outsourcing or insourcing), business process changes and continued enhancements in functional maturity.
  • Lead the alignment of Global Procurement inputs into BU-updates, enabling a category-oriented procurement organization to effectively maintain matrix relationships to key stakeholders. Partner effectively across all areas of Global Procurement to drive activities and priorities in support of the BU business needs. Regularly interact with senior BU stakeholders up to GLT and BU CFO.
  • In partnership with Performance and Finance teams, enable creation of team KPI's in alignment with overall GPLT goals, enabling visibility and management monitoring for savings and value creation portfolio; functional accountability to for annual plan and inputs to finance cycles (e.g., MYE or Plan submissions). Enable Global Procurement to achieve goals via performance management, portfolio management and focused improvement efforts as required.
  • Lead or support opportunity identification for the supported categories and/or business reviews through activities such as top-down budget/expense reviews, leading ideation sessions, or driving best practice benchmarking
  • Facilitate team approach for key programs, including Stakeholder Management (inclusive of stakeholder mapping) and Supplier Relationship Management framework
  • Support Global Procurement's participation in external benchmarking efforts; Deliver intelligence on external best practices for Procurement in support of GSK's efforts in ongoing maturity enhancement. Enhance relative maturity and capabilities through transformation programs, benchmarking, and execution efforts.
  • Supports the alignment between central programs (e.g., Policy/Risk/Compliance, Supplier Diversity, SRM) and functional teams
  • Drive communication and engagement strategy within function, in alignment with overall GP Communications strategy and cadence
  • Other projects/duties to be assigned as needed/appropriate. Examples may include process creation/enhancement, cross-functional team participation, MA&D support, etc.

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ years or 10 years procurement experience
  • 2+ years leading teams
  • Experience across direct and indirect procurement
  • Experience management and execution against a number of critical objectives
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced environment that requires ability to seamlessly shift across a wide variety of responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to act as a trusted business partner providing high degree of responsiveness and attention to detail across a wide variety of topics and priorities
  • Motivation for professional development and willingness to coach, mentor, and train others
  • Significant experience working in a matrix business environment
  • Superior networking skills and a proven ability to build productive and collaborative relationships with senior stakeholders and business partners
  • Demonstrated high learning agility; proven ability to solve complex problems with limited oversight
  • Solid understanding of procurement best practices, policies, and tools
  • Experience developing presentations and business cased for executive audience
  • Ability to work in high pressure environment, often under tight deadlines
  • High level of fluency in spoken and written English
