Job Summary

Performs all cardiac and vascular ultrasound exams. Provides quality patient care using lab physiological and ultrasound equipment. Assists with clinical rotations in both in-patient and out-patient settings as the schedule dictates and participates in after hours and on-call services.
Essential Functions

  • Perform advanced level imaging within the vascular lab or echo lab such as standing venous, renal, hemodialyses, steal studies, PSA injections, operative, TCD exams, TEE, and/or Peds echo. Ability to perform clinical research study exams. Performs lab procedures using independent judgement during the exam to accurately differentiate between normal and abnormal findings. Exams must follow IAC approved scanning protocol and the Smart Protocols must be utilized when possible. Reviews images and paperwork to ensure quality exams are complete, thorough and prepared for review by reading physicians.

  • Participates in the daily workflow by watching the technologist worklist to ensure timely patient care. Schedules exams through the transport system if applicable. Participates in after hours, on-call, weekend and holiday schedules.

  • Operates all testing equipment and software packages EMR and Structured Reporting and PACS. Proficient in the use of telephone, printers, and fax machines. Reports any equipment issues to the appropriate personnel and removes equipment from service. Cleans the equipment and work areas daily and stocks rooms with supplies and linen. Performs monthly deep cleaning of equipment and maintains appropriate logs.

  • Attends staff and departmental meetings as well as educational conferences. Participates in the discussions. Keeps abreast of changes in the field and participates in collecting data, images and articles as necessary.

  • Must be trained at a minimum of three cardiovascular locations and float as needed.

  • Acts as a clinical preceptor and trains vascular and cardiac sonographers and students. Participates in gathering information for monthly QI meetings and assists in presentations as needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

  • This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a formal sonography program

  • Experience - Two (2) year's experience cardiovascular sonography imaging to include TCD, peds echo and/or other advanced level exams.

In Lieu Of

  • In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above, five (5) years of dedicated cardiovascular lab experience may be considered.

  • In Lieu of the education and experience requirements noted above,clinical rotations during a formal educational program may be considered.

  • Team members in this job as of 11/08/2020 are grandfathered from the minimum requirements listed above pending state and regulatory requirements.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • Registered in vascular technology (ARDMS-RVT or CCI-RVS).

  • Registered in echocardiography (ARDMS-AE and/or ARDMS-PE or CCI-RCS)

  • BLS

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of office equipment (fax/copier)

  • Proficient computer skills (database)

  • Data entry skills

  • Mathematical skills

  • Medical Terminology preferred
