Position Title Full Time Adjunct Faculty - Arts and Humanities Librarian
Job Summary
The Daniel J. Evans Library invites applications to join the Research Services Team. The position serves as liaison to arts and humanities faculty, teaches information literacy in an interdisciplinary liberal arts and sciences environment, provides research support to the campus community, and contributes to collection development in arts and humanities.

Evergreen's unique curriculum provides opportunities to teach information literacy across the curriculum, in undergraduate and graduate offerings, and for a wide range of students including at the Olympia campus, our urban campus serving adult learners in Tacoma, and programs centering Indigenous pedagogies that reach Native students in the Puget Sound region. Significant numbers of Evergreen students are the first in their families to attend college and/or are "non-traditional" in multiple ways including veterans, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, low-income students, and neurodiverse students.

The position builds liaison relationships with faculty, creates instructional materials, teaches information literacy, provides reference/research services, mentors student workers at the research desk, and in collaboration with others evaluates and selects resources for an assigned collection area. The position participates in library initiatives including but not limited to programming, displays, and assessment. This position reports to the Dean of the Library.

Based in Olympia, Washington, this is an in-person position; some telework is negotiable in coordination with other library staff and faculty.

Job Expectations
Library:

  • Create a welcoming, inclusive, and equitable library environment that serves a diverse student population.
  • Deliver quality reference and information services to students, faculty, staff, and community members.
  • Deliver quality information literacy instruction in an interdisciplinary environment.
  • Select library materials and subscriptions in Arts & Humanities.
  • Work a mostly Mon-Fri daytime schedule with flexibility for weekend and evening hours at the Research Desk and for in-class visits to classes that meet evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain curiosity about and adapt to rapidly changing information technologies.
  • Stay current with rapidly changing information resources for academic research as well as changes in discovery techniques and technologies.
  • Work collaboratively and communicate across significant differences, and mentor student workers to develop these skills.
  • Stay current with scholarly trends and developments within various Arts & Humanities fields


This is an adjunct faculty position and not eligible for continuing appointment. All requirements for the position must be completed at the time of hire. Salary for all positions is based on experience and degrees (see Salary Grid for more information). We do not offer relocation expenses for our adjunct faculty positions.

Minimum Qualifications
Master's Degree (or higher) in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent advanced academic qualification in a closely related field along with coursework relevant to job expectations.
AND
Master's Degree (or higher) in the Arts & Humanities.
Preferred Qualifications

  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Experience supporting diverse populations of students and faculty in an academic environment.
  • Experience providing information literacy instruction and workshops as well as providing research assistance using print and electronic resources.
  • Evidence of imagination, intellect, and resourcefulness in past initiatives, especially instructional programs.
  • At least 2 years of academic library reference librarian experience
  • Demonstrated interest in scholarly developments within the Arts & Humanities.
  • Knowledge of research methods and information resources within the Arts & Humanities.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with proven success in independently prioritizing work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively across organizational boundaries in a diverse environment.
