Our Corporate Payroll Department is looking for a Senior Payroll Associate to join the team. The Senior Payroll Associate performs a variety of functions necessary for the accurate and timely processing of weekly and bi-weekly payrolls. The Senior Payroll Associate coordinates, validates, and implements work procedures that require comprehensive operational knowledge of federal and state regulations related to wage garnishment, taxation, and wage-hour law.

This position requires expertise in payroll functions as well as the ability to make technical decisions requiring application, analysis, and interpretation of data, procedures, company policy, and law. The Senior Payroll Associate practices continuous improvement to ensure best practices are implemented and maintained.

A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform all duties necessary to timely and accurately process multi-state bi-weekly and weekly payrolls for salary, hourly, and freelance employees
  • Process on-demand payments, retroactive payments, one-time payments, taxable fringe benefits, tax adjustments, and equity-based compensation ensuring compliance with company policies, contracts, and federal and state regulations
  • Export and reconcile data from the time and attendance system
  • Review and audit timesheet data for appropriateness
  • Review, audit, and reconcile payrolls
  • Prepare and process stop payments, void checks, direct deposit reversals, and overpayment collections in accordance with company, federal, and state regulations
  • Assist employees and management with questions, concerns, or requests regarding payroll while properly applying technical knowledge and skills, communicating, and listening effectively
  • Interpret garnishment documents and respond promptly while communicating with employees and vendors as necessary
  • Interpret and set up withholding orders for levies, garnishments, child support, and other involuntary wage assignment orders in the payroll system within the regulated period
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, internal controls, and SOX controls
  • Understand proper taxation of all employee payments including employer-paid benefits and equity-based compensation

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience in the entertainment industry
  • Strong knowledge of taxable fringe benefits and processing of stock transactions
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations with an emphasis on multi-state taxation and garnishments
  • Experience and knowledge of California Labor laws
  • Experience and knowledge of automated time and attendance systems
  • Intermediate Excel skills using VLOOKUP and pivots
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism
  • Ability to deliver high-quality customer service and establish/maintain effective and collaborative working relationships
  • Excellent judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to explain all payroll calculations and deductions to employees and all levels of management

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $29.25-40.63 per hour. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
