Internship and Fellowship Programs Specialist Job Locations
US-Remote
Overview LMI is seeking a NASA Internships and Fellowships Program Specialist. This position will support NASA's workforce experience activities for students grades K-16+ with a STEM focus. This position requires the ability to obtain a public trust clearance. Work will be performed primarily remotely, with occassional travel to NASA centers. NASA Internships and Fellowships are part of NASA's Office of STEM Engagement's portfolio of activities and enrichment. Both programs are designed to build a diverse future STEM workforce by engaging students in authentic learning experiences and leveraging NASA's unique mission through NASA's people, content, and facilities. NASA achieves these goals by exposing participants, who reflect the full diversity of the nation, to NASA missions, experts, research, and technology, through immersive internship and fellowship programs. Participants undertake mentor-guided internships at NASA field centers and facilities under the tutelage of NASA scientists, engineers, and others, or may be embedded with research teams working on NASA-related STEM activities at aerospace contractors, government research laboratories, or academic institutions. This position will serve in an integrated capacity - operating across both the internship and fellowship programs, as outlined in the job responsibilities detailed below. The Specialist will serve as the main point of contact for the internship program for Stennis Space Center (SSC) and Armstrong Flight Research Center (AFRC), initiating and administering all aspects of the program (mentor recruitment, project intake, application tracking , placement, onboarding, internship administration, etc.). While the role will be primarily supported remotely, it will entail occassional travel to Stennis and Armstrong, as well as local travel to the NASA center closest to the Speciliast. In addition to supporting Stennis and Armstrong, the Specialist will support the NASA fellowships team, identifying opportunities to improve processes and foster more integration and collaboration across the fellowships and internships programs. The goal is to continue to deliver and evolve a quality, hands-on experiential learning experience which offers talented students from a broad cross-section of academic institutions exposure to NASA.
