The primary purpose of the Manuscripts and Archives Processor is to arrange and describe archival and manuscript collections in the Special Collections Research Center and maintain detailed documentation of the acquisition and accession of new collections.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Accession and process collections according to current archival descriptive standards and create and edit finding aids.
- Assist with records management services.
- Support Conservation Lab tasks, such as performing basic cleaning and repairs on collection materials.
- Assist with staffing the public services desk.
- Assist with outreach efforts, such as exhibits, blog posts, and special events.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Coursework in library science, archival studies, and/or public history
- Experience working with library and archival databases
- Experience organizing exhibits
- Experience creating blogs and social media posts
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills

Physical Demands of Position |
Position requires significant time at the computer. Some lifting and twisting required in retrieving and returning shelved boxes of manuscripts or packing and transporting collections. Employee must be able to lift and move boxes up to fifty (50) pounds.

Communication
- Develop and implement accessible and in-depth finding aids for Special Collections Research Center materials to promote access to the collections.
- Work with other team members to develop web tools and databases.
- Write blog posts to promote our collections and services.
- Articulate our services, standards, and policies to users.
- Assist with staffing pop-up exhibits, off-hour events, and other engagement opportunities as needed.
Information/Records Administration
- Appraise, inventory, arrange and describe archival and manuscript collections.
- Create accession records and finding aids in ArchivesSpace to maintain data integrity and high-quality documentation of collections.
- Supports Conservation Lab tasks, as needed, such as performing basic cleaning and repairs on collection materials.
- Supports University Records Center tasks, as needed.
Planning and Organizing Work
- Participate in project planning with other team members by developing work objectives, priorities, and methods; helping to identify project staffing and training needs; and determining project supply needs.
- Help Special Collections faculty implement the most efficient work strategies. Assist in the supervision of student assistants, if needed.
- Assist in the promotion of collections and services by selecting manuscript or archival materials for inclusion in exhibits, educational projects, or web features.
- Assist with identifying and updating collections that are under-described.
