Position Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Environmental Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the HERC facility complies with all federal, state, county and city environmental requirements and regulatory reporting. You will support and provide oversight of facility's compliance program and function as the site environmental coordinator.
Responsibilities of this position include:
- Obtaining and managing environmental permits and licenses.
- Supporting efforts on environmental compliance inspections and audits.
- Establishing and maintaining relationships with environmental regulators.
- Investigating, addressing and reporting all noncompliance issues and corrective actions taken to address findings.
- Ensuring all environmental regulatory reporting is completed accurately and on time.
- Providing training and technical guidance to plant personnel.
- Performing emissions calculations and data reporting as required to comply with regulatory reporting requirements.
- Managing continuous emissions monitoring system (CEMS). Completing required audits and checking database configurations, calculations and alarm set points to assure plant operation within permitted levels.
- Providing technical guidance to staff associated with operation and maintenance of CEMS equipment.
- Ensuring all required environmental plans and procedures are developed, maintained, and updated as necessary.
- Supporting project management related to environmental systems of the plant as appropriate.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, environmental sciences or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a related field is required. Experience in the waste-to-energy or industrial sector is preferred.
- Knowledge, understanding and the ability to maintain current knowledge of complex and multi-faceted environmental issues.
- Knowledge of environmental regulatory programs.
- Skilled at effective communications; good interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication skills and ability to understand information and ideas as presented.
- Ability to plan, manage and conduct a comprehensive program of compliance with environmental regulations.
- Ability to negotiate permit conditions and regulatory compliance determinations with regulatory agencies.
- Utmost attention to detail and quality assurance; must possess the ability to proof work to detect minute data changes and differences.
- Ability to cope with stress and apply good judgment to properly evaluate emergency situations, make decisions and take direct corrective action.
- Ability to provide technical guidance to employees and support plant compliance efforts.
- Must possess strong computer skills; must be proficient in the use of PC-based computer software (reporting software tools, word processing, emails, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation tools) and wireless communication devices.
- Complete a successful background check, drug/alcohol test and references.
Working Conditions:
This position typically works Monday - Friday. Hybrid work schedule available. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position for drug, cannabis and alcohol testing purposes.
Compensation and Benefits:
Pay range: $101,430-$139,000 (dependent on experience and qualifications)
