Your Role With Us:

SCOPE

  • Serving as the Adult Hospitalist Medical Director for the Health System
  • Developing an infrastructure for the Salem Health Adult Hospitalist Program
  • Leading and managing the program's providers
  • Serving as the professional liaison between the hospitalist physicians and the Medical Staff
  • Serving as member or chair of committees as requested
  • Supporting the Health System and Medical Staff policies pertaining to patient care
  • Revising existing policies and developing new policies as the need arises
  • Ensuring a high standard of patient care
  • Coordinating peer review activities

LEADERSHIP

  • Understanding of the goals of the Adult Hospitalist Program from the perspective of the Health System and Medical Staff
  • Participating or leading Medical Staff or hospital committees if requested
  • Assigning hospitalist to other Medical Staff or hospital committees as needed
  • Participating in continuing medical education courses and/or seminars
  • Understanding and supporting the quality and business objectives of the Health System
  • Supports efforts to improve patient satisfaction scores as the physician champion. Responsible for assuring providers under the Medical Director meet the Salem Health Board's patient satisfaction metrics annually. Role models, mentors and works with other providers to assure continuous patient improvement. Reviews scores with providers, sets clear expectations and advocates for engagement with improving the patient experience

OPERATIONS

  • Ensuring effective communication among all stakeholders
  • Ensuring medical records are completed in accordance with Health System and Medical Staff policy
  • Scheduling coverage as needed for the program
  • Completing performance evaluations of the physicians
  • Participating in risk management programs or assessments at request of risk management representatives of the Health System
  • Assessing physician workload and recommending staffing changes to maintain sustainable and manageable workloads for the physicians
  • Regularly assessing referring physician specialty preference process and modifying to account for changing preferences of the referring physicians

QUALITY MANAGEMENT

  • Overseeing collection of data for quality management purposes
  • Identifying opportunities to improve patient safety and quality outcomes
  • Developing tools such as practice guidelines, standard order sheets, educational modules or other interventions designed to increase the quality outcome
  • Ensuring tools/intervention are appropriately peer reviewed and approved by Medical Staff and/or hospital committee(s)
  • Overseeing implementation of tool/intervention
  • Re-measuring and assessing quality outcome
  • Adjusting intervention/tool as needed and complete quality improvement cycle process
  • Participating in peer review medical record review as requested
  • Conducting periodic reviews of the medical records of patients admitted to the hospitalist service and provide informal feedback to physicians as necessary Supports efforts to improve patient satisfaction scores as the physician champion with the actions described above

FINANCIAL

  • Assisting with revenue cycle process including eligibility, credentialing, enrollment, coding and billing
  • Understanding of expenses for the Health System and method to reduce expenses where possible
  • Identify opportunities to increase revenue and participate in financial modeling of these new opportunities
  • Assessing and providing feedback on physician compensation model and development of criteria to promote specific program objectives

PROVIDER DEVELOPMENT

  • Assisting in recruiting provider candidates for program
  • Assessing knowledge and skills of all hospitalists in program and develop a plan for bridging any gaps in these areas
  • Assisting hospitalists in finding educational and continuing medical education programs to enhance knowledge and skills which will compliment program needs

Background/Expertise:

Education

  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Successful completion of accredited residency program in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine. Board certification required

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of experience as a board certified Adult Hospitalist Physician required.
  • 3 years of experience in a leadership role.
  • Demonstrate experience and current compentency, to include the admission and/or provision of patient care for at least 60 hospital patients, including ED evaluations/admits in the previous 2 years.

Licenses/Certification/Registration

  • Knowledge of Lean methodology highly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to be sensitive with persons of various social, cultural, economic and educational backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Spanish language as second language preferred.
