General Purpose of Job: Assist Anesthesia Team members with preparation of supplies and equipment for anesthesia procedures and surgery suite turnover. Essential Duties: This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Caregivers may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.
- Performs daily checks of all anesthetizing locations to insure appropriate equipment is available and functioning properly including daily anesthesia machine checks.
- Demonstrates detailed technical knowledge and trouble-shooting ability for anesthesia delivery system, Scavenger system, gas analyzer, EKG, pulse oximeter, and rapid infusion devices. Notifies either BioMed or company for repairs and/or maintenance as appropriate.
- Assembles basic anesthesia set up (verifies & sets-up age specific equipment).
- Performs anesthesia equipment turnover. Removes & disposes all supplies & equipment following procedures performed by anesthesia providers. Prepares & processes all anesthesia-related items that require disinfection, decontamination & sterilization. Coordinates with environmental services for prompt operating room turnover time.
- Maintains the cleanliness and organization of the anesthesia work stations on a daily basis.
- Maintains, inspects, and replaces as necessary a safe and secure sharps disposal system.
- Assists with patient transport to PACU/ICU including preparation of oxygen source & transport monitors.
- Assists with set-up of invasive monitoring equipment in routine & emergency situations: arterial line, central venous pressure line, Swan Ganz, cardiac output, fiber optic intubation & regional nerve block.
- Provides assistance & helps patient maintain proper position during epidural/spinal placement.
- Prepares and assembles transducer lines necessary for arterial, central venous, and pulmonary artery pressure monitoring as necessary or requested. For immediate use or within 3 hours. Line labeled with beyond use dating (Date and 3 hours from assembly).
- Prepares and assembles IV set ups including the fluid warmer, level one or other rapid infuser. For immediate use or within 3 hours. Lines labeled with beyond use dating (Date and 3 hours from assembly).
- Assists anesthesia provider with invasive monitor insertion and procedures such as pulmonary artery catheter, central venous access, fiber optic intubation, and/or difficult airway situations.
- Obtain blood samples from arterial lines and performs point of care testing on these samples. Perform QC checks on assigned testing devices.
- Assists anesthesia provider induction of anesthesia, including cricoid pressure for intubation as directed.
- Provides supplies needed for general/regional anesthesia; keeps anesthesia equipment supplies stocked. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in anesthesia machines & carts, including rotation & replacement of dated items. Maintains adequate stock of supplies in emergency code blue boxes, malignant hyperthermia carts, difficult intubation carts, line carts, and regional carts.
- Responds to requests from caregivers in a timely fashion.
- Continually check during the shift with anesthesia providers in rooms assigned to determine if any assistance is required.
- Maintains all appropriate records and logs for cidex cleaning of fiberoptic and TEE scopes.
- Delivers or obtains items from other departments.
- Coordinates with Manager to maintain and revise inventory par levels for all supplies and equipment.
- Assists with precepting new Anesthesia Technician to the unit.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Work Experience |
Experience in perfusion or anesthesia preferred Experience with monitoring or biomedical equipment preferred |
Education |
High School education or GED BLS Associate degree with a major in an allied medical field preferred Current certification as an anesthesia technician by the American Society of Anesthesia Technicians (ASATT) or grandfathered in if hired or transferred before October 1, 2020. |
Specialized Knowledge and Skills |
* Must be able to prioritize multiple simultaneous requests and prioritize workload. * Demonstrates ability to use a keyboard as may be required to perform the essential duties of the job. |
