Under general supervision, the Pharmacy Resident will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing programs that optimize the use of medications. The process is a dynamic one that ensures that medications are administered and prescribed in an appropriate, safe, and cost-effective manner. The scope of programs covers medications administered to The Everett Clinic and The Poly Clinic patients including interfacing with inpatient medication prescribing. The programs involve interaction with patients, physicians, nurses, and other health care providers to provide management, information, and education about the use of drugs.

Primary Responsibilities:

Clinical Pharmacy Patient Care Practice



  • Works providing direct patient care to patients in clinical areas as identified
  • Practices under Collaborative Drug Therapy Agreements (CDTA) for Pharmacotherapy and other protocols as defined by patient population
  • Work includes review of medication regimens and recommendations to optimize medication therapy to prescribers
  • Provides patient education and support
  • Performs medication reconciliation for post-hospital and other high-risk patients
  • Provides medication therapy management (MTM) services for identified patients
  • Provides medication optimization and quality improvement interventions for patients to improve medication 5 Star and HEDIS
  • Conducts target drug programs or other interventional efforts designed to optimize the use of pharmaceuticals
  • Answers medication-related questions and available for patient consultation for medication-related issues for providers and clinical teammates
  • Provides refill authorization services based on local protocols


Medication Use Management



  • Provides medication use management programs for TEC providers and staff
  • Conducts medication use evaluations or disease-based audits (e.g. review prescribing against predetermined criteria)
  • Participates in providing drug use feedback to providers using available data (e.g., prescriber profiles, guideline, and disease state management initiatives) and academic detailing
  • Participates and supports guideline, pathway, and other disease management efforts as deemed appropriate
  • Conducts education for providers and staff regarding medications, new indications, counter-detailing of industry advertisement and pharmacy-related safety and quality work
  • Assists in training pharmacy staff and interns and new providers and teammates
  • Provides clinical resource for patient assistance program
  • Conducts formulary reviews and medication use management for P&T Committee including monographs, comparative cost-analysis, and solicitation of physician input. Ad Hoc Member of P&T Committee

  • Complete all compliance training, including but not limited to HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signed Agreements
  • Ensures confidentiality of patient information by following HIPAA guidelines and TEC policies
  • Attends training to meet job position requirements and as needed or mandated by TEC policies, Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I, and other state/federal regulations
  • Have regular and predictable attendance

  • Registered pharmacist in the state of Washington



The salary range for this role is $55,000 to $100,000 annually based on full-time employment. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. UnitedHealth Group complies with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
