About the role:

We have an exciting opportunity for a R&D Engineer II supporting WATCHMAN Left Atrial Appendage Closure projects within the Cardiology division. WATCHMAN is an exciting growth driver for BSC.This role will utilize a variety of new and proven technologies to deliver life-changing medical devices to patients and clinicians in support of BSC's mission.This role supports a major product line with high visibility which will provide the right candidate with excellent growth potential.

The R&D role will work with a team to develop new access/delivery system products.The role will include developing test methods, designing and executing experiments, and prototyping new innovations. These investments in new technology will drive a robust pipeline for left atrial appendage occlusion that will keep BSC in a market leadership position.

Work Mode

At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees to be in our local office at least three days per week.

Your responsibilities include:



  • Support and successfully contribute to project teams through the following activities: product design and development, test of materials, preparation of specifications, process capability studies, research investigations (animal and clinical studies), report preparation, and process/test documentation.
  • Supports solutions to a variety of problems of simple scope and complexity where analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors.
  • Summarizes, analyzes, and draws conclusions from test results.
  • Prepares standard reports/documentation to communicate results to technical community.
  • Assist in troubleshooting on new products/process problems as related to design, material, or process.
  • Engages with internal company and external contacts. Represents organization on specific projects. Uses diplomacy and tact in interactions and problem solving.
  • Translates customer needs into product requirements and design specifications.
  • Train, technicians/operators on new processes and/or test procedures Support concepts and designs for new products/processes and submits idea disclosures.
  • Applies the Technical Development Process (TDP)/Product Development Process (PDP) methodologies.
  • Works cooperatively with process development, quality, manufacturing, regulatory, clinical, and marketing on projects of varying complexity to ensure project success. Responsible for engineering documentation.
  • Designs and coordinates standard engineering tests and experiments.
  • Designs, procures, and fabricates tooling and fixtures.



What we're looking for:

Minimum Qualifications



  • BS in Biomedical, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science or Similar
  • Required minimum years of work experience (primarily in medical device or related field):2+ Years with BS
  • Ability to draw conclusions and make recommendations based on technical inputs from multiple and varied sources.
  • Experience developing test methods
  • Excellent organizational, communication and collaboration skills.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Class II or Class III Medical Device product development experience
  • Experience with delivery system or catheter design
  • Experimental design and statistical analysis knowledge
  • Experience with blood-contacting biomaterials
  • Working understanding of polymer properties

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
