Job Summary:

The Scientist II will join the staff of the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.

This position will support the research mission within the Center for Integrated Agricultural Systems through leading work related to food systems and supply chains, including aspects related to farmer behavior, perceptions, and effective policy development. This is a timely and policy relevant project that stands to have important implications for Wisconsin and national social policy for building resilient local and regional food systems. The selected individual will work with a team of scientists to employ transdisciplinary, participatory research approaches. It is reflective of the Wisconsin Idea and, as such, requires a highly-skilled independent scientist who is positioned to efficiently engage with the substantive, methodological, and data components of study design and implementation. The selected candidate will be expected to communicate research results through peer-reviewed publications, white papers, community-focused articles, as well as presentations to professionals and community members.


Responsibilities:
Identifies research problems, designs research methodologies, performs research, and prepares and/or presents results for presentation to professional organizations or for scholarly publications to help advance research.

  • 20% Identifies research problems and develops complex research methodologies and procedures
  • 20% Collects and analyzes complex research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision
  • 20% Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • 10% Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • 20% Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • 10% Serves as a unit subject matter expert and liaison to internal and external stakeholders providing advanced level information and representing the interests of a specialized research area

Education:

Required
PhD in an agriculturally-related social science field, such as rural sociology, geography, and public policy


Qualifications:

Required:
- At least one year of post-PhD experience in a postdoctoral or research scientist role
- Social science research experience studying behaviors and perceptions of rural communities
- Record of peer-reviewed publications and grant proposal submissions

Preferred:
- Success with obtaining federal grants independently


Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 50% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This position is expected to part-time (50% FTE), but hours may be adjusted in the future.

Salary:

Minimum $65,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The minimum salary for this position is $65,000, however, the actual salary will depend on experience and qualifications.
