Description

GAI is seeking a college student in their junior or senior year enrolled in an ABET Accredited Civil Engineering Program, Geology Program, or Technical Geo-Science Program to work in our Pennsylvania Geotechnical Group. This position will be based out of our Pittsburgh (Homestead), Pennsylvania office.

Job Duties

Perform geotechnical engineering/geology assignments involving:



  • Subsurface investigations and geotechnical/geologic site characterization for a variety of facilities including, but not limited to: foundations for transmission lines, buildings, roadways, bridges, dams, retaining walls, and other structures.
  • Install geotechnical field instrumentation.
  • Select samples for laboratory testing.
  • Perform earthwork construction monitoring and foundation inspection. The individual will be responsible for interpreting specifications and construction drawings, evaluating site conditions based on construction excavations, monitoring and reporting on construction activities, and performing field testing of soils.
  • Prepare boring logs and geologic cross sections; assist with proposals, budgets, schedules, specifications, and reports.
  • Assist with geotechnical engineering designs involving: rock/soil slope stability; cut slope and fill embankment design; shallow and deep foundation recommendations, and landslide remediation.


Additional Requirements:



  • The candidate will be expected to traverse steep terrain and lift/carry/move up to 50 lbs.
  • The candidate must have a valid driver's license.
