Salary Starting at: $42,000.00

Job Objective:

As the Community Center Coordinator, you will provide leadership and accountability for managing all aspects of the corps community center ministries. You will assist in developing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive portfolio of all community programs, which includes coordinating activities, facility space, and community center schedule. Additionally, there will be engagement of community relations, marketing, and departmental resource/budget management. All duties and responsibilities will be performed while ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

What You Will Do:



  • Manage the daily oversight of activities for Community Center.
  • Work collaboratively, and in support with program directors, and community collaborators who operate within the community center, to ensure success of program.
  • Be willing and able to communicate the needs and success of the Community Center to schools, service clubs and/or media.
  • Assist with training, supervising, and evaluating community center staff and volunteers.
  • Assist in evaluating Community Center programs, reassessing the population for changes in demographics, interests, and needs as it relates to program growth and sustainability.
  • Develop, implement and update promotional plans for programs to ensure maximum member and community participation.
  • Coordinate the Community Center schedule with all Community Center programs, and facility usage.
  • Assist facility rentals, payments, and appropriate staffing as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with The Salvation Army policies and procedures in all activities/events/programs and ensure appropriate risk management procedures are utilized at all times.
  • Maintain all community center program registration forms, documents, and computer databases.
  • Maintain computer-based calendars and descriptions; remain abreast of technology and software updates and their application in this setting.
  • Maintain collegial communication with divisional headquarters.
  • Engage in actions and communications at all times which demonstrate a commitment to the success of The Fort Wayne Corps and community center.
  • Provide a role model example for staff, members, and participants in ethical decision-making, personal leadership, respectful communication, and sensitivity to difference/diversity.
  • Demonstrate an enthusiastic commitment to the well-being and personal development of all people, regardless of their identity or background.
  • Be supportive of and exemplify the mission of The Salvation Army
  • Ensure an environment, ministries and services that welcome families and persons of all ages and ethnicities.
  • Ensure a healthy, safe and productive environment for ministries which follow all SFH guidelines.
  • Assist with Christmas efforts as needed; including but not limited to, bell ringer scheduling, driving, counting kettles, overseeing drivers and assisting with toy distribution efforts.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: High School Diploma required; associate degree preferred.

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Experience in office and administration preferred, experience working with the public, must have people skills.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. CPR and first aid certifications.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to effectively communicate electronically, verbally and in writing are essential.
  • The ability to write reports, to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.

Travel: Position may require occasional travel for training, events, and community relations. Official vehicle will be provided.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment and may require some weekend and evening work.
