HJF is seeking a Senior Biomarker Repository Technician to preform research and/or development in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. May exercise technical discretion in the design, execution, and interpretation of experiments that contribute to project strategies. Contractor shall assist in the development of and independently execute protocols adhering to the experimental design for biomarker verification as determined in collaboration with the respective project Lead/PI in a BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 environment.

This position will be in support of United States Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USAMRIID) Technical Research Support Services located at Fort Detrick in Frederick, MD. USAMRIID works closely with other U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC) organizations, Department of Defense (DoD), the Interagency (including Interagency Laboratories), and private companies to accomplish its mission of protecting the Warfighter from biological threats and being prepared to investigate disease outbreaks or threats to public health. This includes conducting Research, Development, Testing, & Evaluation (RDTE) of medical countermeasure against biological threats and the safety, quality assurance, project management, and core support required for these research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Contractor shall perform experiments at BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 as required by the experimental design and respective organisms.
  • Contractor shall perform next generation sequencing, Nanostring immunological and inflammatory panels, Luminex-based platforms, miRNA quantification, as well as other molecular diagnostic techniques.
  • Contractor shall conduct experiments for detection of etiologic agents within animal and clinical samples.
  • Contractor shall perform laboratory work requiring expertise in small animal handling with associative trainings completed.
  • Contractor shall assist the Lead/PIs in preparation of technical reports and manuscripts for publication
  • Contractor shall perform laboratory work required to fulfil experimental designs for novel sample collection/concentration/processing to include Nanotrap Concentration, and DNA/mRNA purification from both NHP and Human clinical matrices.
  • Contractor shall present protocols and data generated at weekly meetings as requested.
  • Contractor shall utilize biomarker expertise to identify unexpected or invalid results. Communicate and troubleshoot assay and instrument issues with the respective project Lead/PI.
  • Contractor shall perform experiments at BSL-2, BSL-3 and/or BSL-4 as required by the experimental design and respective organisms.
  • CONUS/OCONUS travel may be required in support of the diagnostic mission and/or presentation of scientific research.
  • Contractor shall work with appropriate Lead/PIs to establish and maintain responsibility of a biosample repository for biomarker evaluation and verification.
  • Contractor shall perform highly detailed clinical sample testing in support of priority BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 animal studies or human clinical sample surveillance studies.
  • Contractor shall train new laboratory members in BSL-2, BSL-3, and/or BSL-4 project-specific laboratory techniques and methods.
  • Contractor shall serve as the laboratory supervisor for assigned laboratory spaces to ensure the laboratory meets required safety, functionality, and stocking requirements.
  • Contractor shall consolidate and analyze biomarker data and repository metadata in support of technical reports, presentations, and manuscripts.
  • Contractor shall facilitate the planning, preparation, and laboratory research execution support of approximately 5-8 projects per year.
  • Contractor shall contribute to a Biomarker Quarter and Annual Reports for associate projects.
  • Contractor shall contribute to the collection, management, and analysis of Biomarker Data for assigned projects.
  • Contractor shall author, review and revise Biomarker SOPs as required to support assigned projects.
  • BPRP enrollment is required and shall be held and maintained IAW the provisions in this contract and all applicable regulations

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and 7 years' related experience or Master's Degree with a 3 years' related experience required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of complex laboratory procedures
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects
  • Good communication and analytical skills.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance and BRPR, CPRP, and/or CSPRP, including background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities

  • Maintain sufficient health to meet enrollment criteria and maintain eligibility in USAMRIID's Biological Personnel Reliability Program (BPRP), Chemical Personnel Reliability Program (CPRP) and/or Controlled Substances Personnel Reliability Program (CSPRP).
  • Current on routine adult immunizations or proof of active immunity against HBV, MMR, Influenza, COVID-19, Tdap. Employees working directly with patients or research participants must receive a negative TB test.
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $57,650 - $93,100. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
