POSITION SUMMARY

The Laboratory Technician position is primarily responsible for processing customer samples at various stages throughout the laboratory operation in accordance with standard operating procedures. These duties can range from receiving/storing samples, prepping samples for DNA extraction, DNA extraction, and running DNA on various assays to generate data for customers. The Laboratory Technician role is also responsible for restocking inventory in the lab, basic trouble shooting on equipment, and participating in continuous improvement projects. The Laboratory Technician will also participate in CAPA (Corrective and Preventative Actions) investigations that result in process improvements.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process, store, and dispose of customer samples according to standard operating procedures.75%
  • Maintain supply inventory by using appropriate software to monitor material inventory levels.5%
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on equipment throughout the laboratory as needed.5%
  • Report deviations from SOPs, or unexpected results in a timely fashion, in accordance with the organization's CAPA (corrective action, preventative action) SOPs.5%

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Indicate the formal education, certification or license required and/or preferred. Include the minimum number of years of relevant experience required for the position (where legally permissible).

  • High School diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor of Science degree is preferred.
  • 0-3+ years of relevant experience; Genetics or Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with GLP/GMP practices.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) applications.
  • Experience with continuous improvement projects is preferred.
  • Experience using standard laboratory equipment and reagents is preferred.
  • Experience with inventory management is preferred.
  • Experience in a regulated environment is preferred.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Long periods of sitting or standing.
  • Ability to lift 20-30lbs.
  • Onsite position.
