Summary

Responsible for all functions of the Knoxville Transportation
Department. Supports the DC Operations Manager with developing annual
operational budgets; completes and evaluates weekly and monthly financial
forecasts. Develops and reviews management reports regarding statistical data
necessary to assure Transportation efficiencies are met. Takes required actions
to maintain compliance with Operation requirements as well as Department of
Transportation rules and regulations.
Provides input into the development, implementation and/or execution of
processes to control driver hours, Fleet trucks, equipment, and resources. With
the use of auditing, data collection and monitoring program, ensures drivers
delivery performance is maintained and enhanced in areas of safety, security,
quality, productivity and customer satisfaction. Provides adequate coaching and
management development of subordinates.

Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Directly responsible for Transportation compliance as it relates
    to rules and regulations with but not limited to OSHA and the Department of
    Transportation
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and concurrent training
    of all Nashville Transportation Teammates
  • Maintains appropriate staffing levels of Delivery Route Truck
    Drivers and support personnel in order to ensure daily distributions are
    delivered.
  • Responsible for the inspection, accountability, and physical
    maintenance of Fleet trucks and related equipment
  • Maintains, reviews and analyzes operation reports and logs as it
    relates to driver breakage/shortages, return orders, vehicle maintenance, fuel
    expenditures, mileage logs, driver attendance, and driver vacation
    schedules.
  • Utilizes software such as Road net and Mobile cast in order to
    monitor, maintain, and manage Transportation department as it relates to
    Department of Transportation
    compliance.
  • Manages, trains, and develops subordinate Team members ensuring
    their alignment in Transportation structure and
    expectations.
  • Responsible for the recruitment, training, and performance
    management of Transportation Teammates
  • Works with various departments to alleviate operational issues
    within Transportation department as well as distribution center area of
    operations in
    general.
  • Develops corrective and preventative actions to enhance quality,
    remove errors/waste, as well as achieve overall department
    objectives.
  • Directly responsible for real-time collaboration with Fleet and
    Safety Manager as it relates to activities within Transportation Department
  • Partners with Night Shift Management team to maintain integrity of
    Fleet vehicles; maintains appropriate safety compliance ensuring vehicles are
    managed and maintained with expectations set forth by Empire Operation and
    Safety
    standards.
  • Takes part in monthly safety meetings and drives accountability,
    awareness, and training in all matters of
    safety.
  • Continuously reviews Transportation policies and procedures to
    ensure efficiency and effectiveness and safety of all operations.
  • Takes part in employee communication meetings and drives
    successful employee recognition
    program.
  • Partners with Inventory Control to support warehouse matters
    related to inventories and inventory
    discrepancies.
  • Monitors and maintains attendance accountability within ADP.
  • Ensures that End of Day reporting is completed in compliance with
    requirements outlined by DC Operations Manager; this includes but is not
    limited to the Fleet Report, Returns Log, and Driver Variance
    report.
  • Confers and cooperates with other management personnel in
    formulating administrative and operational policies and procedures as they
    relate to the transportation division.
  • Communicates with the Sales Department to ensure accurate, timely
    and courteous deliveries are the standard.
  • Directs investigations into causes of customer or shipper
    complaints and responds
    accordingly.
  • Ensures that all required training and follow-up training is conducted, and proper documentation is maintained.
  • Responsible for managing the Same Day/Sample cage in order to
    provide timely product to Sales
    partners.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
