Responsibilities

As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will be a vital resource for our nursing staff, patients, and visitors. Your role will involve assisting with care coordination, providing essential information, and securing assistance, all while embodying our mission, vision, and values. Your commitment to outstanding service will help create a welcoming and efficient environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordination Excellence: Perform coordinating functions accurately and efficiently to support the smooth operation of the unit.

  • Welcoming Atmosphere: Greet patients and visitors with a warm smile, providing them with direction and information to enhance their experience.

  • Information Management: Maintain unit information sources, including care assignments, to ensure staff have the necessary resources at their fingertips.

  • Prioritization and Implementation: Assess and prioritize unit and patient needs, implementing solutions in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Effective Communication: Foster courteous, responsive, and timely interpersonal communication with patients, families, and team members.

  • Order Processing: Accurately and promptly process physician orders within your scope of practice, ensuring timely care delivery.
  • Patient Transitions: Efficiently manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, documenting all necessary information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Clerical Support: Provide essential clerical support to the unit and hospital, ensuring that administrative tasks are handled smoothly.


Qualifications

  • Requires a high school diploma. A Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary Certificate or Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary two-year degree is preferred.
  • At least 1 year work experience in Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary position preferred.
  • Strong communication and telephone skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in fast paced environment.
  • Computer and clerical skills.
  • Ability to establish effective relationships with health care team members.
  • Strong customer service skills.

Compensation for this role ranges from $20-26 per hour depending on education and experience.

An individual's pay rate within the posted range is determined by several factors, including skills, experience, education, and market conditions.
