MANUFACTURING SPECIALIST (STARSHIP HEATSHIELD)

The Manufacturing Specialist is responsible for developing and sustaining a machinery maintenance plan and maximizing equipment uptime in a high-production-rate environment. The Specialist works with a multidisciplinary team of industrial and automation engineers, production and automation technicians, sourcing, supply chain, and suppliers, setting up standards and trends for maintenance directions, spare parts, and recommended execution/instructions to ensure high machinery reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Partner with design and process engineering, and manufacturing teams to create maintenance plans for new machines installed on the shop floor
  • Understand and react to engineering and suppliers' recommendations and directions for maintenance plans
  • Give visibility of machinery up and downtime to ensure that corrective actions are being taken to improve machinery reliability
  • Champion maintenance tickets, training, and execution by technicians and production teams
  • Understand machinery trends and implement new plans to support machinery uptime
  • Understand process and product changes that can impact machinery reliability plans and react accordingly
  • Champion and foster good usage of maintenance tickets and asset management software; train technicians and engineers to properly use available systems to control machine reliability
  • Develop machinery key performance indicators to support day-to-day operations
  • Ensure spare parts are properly created in the systems, generating a good replenishment system to allow quick turnaround for maintenance execution
  • Work hand-in-hand with supervisors and production planning to ensure technicians' execution of the preventive maintenance plan; make sure that proper downtimes are planned to allow for machinery preventive maintenance
  • Develop predictive maintenance with process engineers by ensuring critical assets have proactive methods to identify potential problems
  • Conduct regular reviews for open maintenance tickets and ensure good usage of available tools
  • Conduct regular review of indicators with engineering and production management about trends and recommended actions in the shop floor related to machines
  • Ensure the right tools and fixtures are available for technicians to perform all work necessary to be done on machines on the shop floor
  • Be an active agent of continuous improvement actions that will directly impact the process and production through new systems, methodologies, and means to increase machine reliability


BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:



  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • 5+ years of professional experience with the maintenance of manufacturing equipment


PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience developing or supporting any of the following products/processes: mechanical/structural assemblies, fluid component/valve assembly
  • Experience with CNC machining, forming, and bending
  • Exposure to bonding, drilling, fastening, and other assembly manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of fluid systems, pumps, and related applications
  • Knowledge and understanding of welding
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, enthusiasm for the team's spirit of innovation, and mission of improving reliability in cutting-edge technology
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing and controlling maintenance systems
  • Demonstrated application of process controls in high volume manufacturing, test, and quality environment
  • Dedicated to adopting a Lean approach to quality without compromising safety or reliability
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as Lean principles, measurement systems analysis, design of experiments, statistical process control, root cause analysis and corrective action, process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), control plans, and various problem-solving approaches
  • Computer skill sets such as SQL, Microsoft Office, or other electronic systems


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Ability to pass Air Force background check for Cape Canaveral
  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and offsite as needed
  • Must be willing to travel for business and operational needs, travel requirement is up to 15%
