Position Summary
The American Museum of Natural History is one of the world's preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, and has as its mission to discover, interpret and disseminate information about human cultures, the natural world and the universe through a wide-ranging program of scientific research, education and exhibition.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Education, Exhibition and Public Programs, the Vice President will bring experience, expertise and vision for the use of digital media to enhance in-person Museum experiences and explore strategic directions for dissemination to partners around the world. This position will lead the science visualization, exhibitions digital media, public programs and global business development departments.
The VP will be expected to actively collaborate with partners across the Museum, align work across divisions and create a strategic direction that will be impactful and cohesive. The VP will work closely with Science to explore opportunities for disseminating digital collection assets, especially through immersive experiences and activations across the Museum's public venues.
The VP will play a significant role in the development and implementation of the Museum's Strategic Plan which includes collections digitization, cultural storytelling, addressing climate and biodiversity topics and expanding audiences.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide strategic vision for in-person digital experiences that can also be shared with global partners. This includes exhibition media, digital immersive experiences, dome shows and new opportunities.
  • Lead science visualization, exhibitions digital media, public programs and global business development. Foster strong ties between Science and other listed areas.
  • Work with institutional partners to develop standards and strategies to disseminate and share digital content.
  • Identify and expand opportunities for digital experiences throughout the visitor experience.
  • Lead the development, production and dissemination of:

    • Dome shows, in partnership with the Hayden Planetarium, Rose Center, education and science teams.
    • Digital media and interactives in the Museum, in partnership with exhibition and education departments.
    • Immersive digital experiences.



  • Supervise the budget, projects and timelines for digital experiences in the Museum.

The expected salary range for the Vice President, Science Visualization and Public Engagement is $250,000/annual - $290,000/annual. The AMNH offers an extensive benefits package designed to meet the needs of our dedicated and diverse community.

Pay will be determined based on several factors. The hiring range for the position at commencement is based on the type of work and the scope of responsibilities. The salary and placement offered is based on a number of individualized factors, including, but not limited to, skills, knowledge, training, education, credentials, areas of specialization and depth and scope of experience.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in science, media, UI/UX design or another related field.
  • 10 years experience producing/directing digital content with increasing responsibility, including significant managerial experience.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate-level degree in a science field.
Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) for prolonged periods.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to move about the Museum campus.
