What you'll be doing...

As a Distinguished Engineer for HQ Network Planning, you will be defining, architecting, designing, and driving the RAN software strategy and feature roadmaps (including budget management) for Network and Technology evolution. This role focuses on RAN automation for the Non-Real Time RIC and rApps. Your primary goal will be to evaluate and recommend strategies for leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the Radio Access Network (RAN) and in rApps to optimize network performance and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Partnering with internal and external stakeholders and vendors to define and ensure technology alignment for all aspects of RAN Automation, including identifying and vetting AI-driven use cases for Energy Savings, Coverage, Capacity, and Quality Optimization.

  • Defining the rApp requirements and deployment in the Verizon Cloud Platform, including ensuring the platform can support AI/ML workloads and models deployed within the RAN and rApps.

  • Collaborating with System Performance, Maintenance Engineering, and Operational Owners to determine the business needs.

  • Developing methods and procedures, and a plan for operational readiness that governs the development of the network from Lab onboarding to Production.

  • Driving continuous improvement, leveraging the best in the Industry Automation platforms and applications.

  • Communicating program status and setting clear direction concerning process, standards, and roles/responsibilities for all involved project teams.

**This position can be located in any valid US based Verizon network location**

What we're looking for...

You'll need to have:

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.

  • Eight or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.

  • Experience with AI/ML models and their application within the RAN and rApps context.

  • Knowledge of mobile networks, especially on 3GPP, O-RAN for 4G and 5G standards in RAN and their interfaces.

Even better if you have one or more of the following:

  • A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related fields

  • Experience in evaluating and implementing AI solutions within the RAN infrastructure

  • Experience in negotiating and championing RAN Software Feature Roadmaps with Network Infrastructure vendors like Ericsson and Samsung.

  • Experience with Cloud Deployment, including Verizon Cloud Platform.

  • In-depth technical knowledge and expertise of RAN engineering concepts and principles, including RF theory, propagation modeling, link budget, FCC/FAA regulations.

  • Experience in wireless standard organizations, including 3GPP, ORAN NGMN, etc.

  • Good presentation skills catering to all levels of management with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a manner that is understood by the audience.

  • Ability to prioritize efforts and tasks in a large-volume.

If you are hired into a California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Rhode Island, Washington or Washington, D.C. work location, the compensation range for this position is between $136,500.00 and $238,000.00 annually based on a full-time schedule. The salary will vary depending on your location and confirmed job-related skills and experience. This is an incentive based position with the potential to earn more. For part time roles, your compensation will be adjusted to reflect your hours.
