A post-baccalaureate Research Intern position in the Department of Neuroscience and Pharmacology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. The lab explores the biology of cancer with a focus on identifying druggable targets that promote tumor progression and designing new therapies that can be translated into effective anticancer treatments. This position will provide an opportunity for training in modern cancer research that spans genetic, cellular, mouse, and molecular biology techniques.

This individual will be responsible for the generation, analysis, and interpretation of experimental data, maintenance of and experimentation with cultured cells, breeding and studies of mouse tumor models, and assistance with the daily operations of the laboratory.

This position is designed for individuals who:

* Seek training, experience, and mentoring in a research setting

* Plan to pursue a graduate or professional degree in science, medicine or a related field

* Have US citizenship or permanent residence

Education Requirement: Abachelor's degree in a biomedical related field, animal science, veterinary technology or other related science program.

Experience Requirements:

* Meticulous and detailed data collection and analysis skills, including maintenance of a lab notebook.

* Experience analyzing data with Excel and statistics software (GraphPad Prism, etc.).

* Experience using basic molecular techniques including PCR and assay preparation.

* Strong work ethic and motivation to learn.

* Excellent verbal communication skills.

* Interest in pursuing a graduate or professional degree in science or medicine following this internship.

Desired Qualifications:

* Experience working with animals and formal training / approval to work with animals by the Office of Animal Resources and IACUC. This includes experience performing mouse genotyping and husbandry.

* Experience maintaining and handling cultured cells

* Understanding of fundamental biology.

* Excellent written communication skills.
