Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The primary purpose of the Department of Psychology is to provide undergraduate and graduate students rigorous training in the understanding of human behavior using scientific methods, and to provide students with the competencies, knowledge and skills sufficient to: (1) qualify for graduate/doctoral studies in psychology and the behavioral sciences; and (2) qualify for a range of human service positions that require the application of psychological or behavioral science methods and skills. |
Primary Purpose of Position |
The primary purpose of this position is to ensure the office is managed efficiently to provide quality service to students, faculty, staff, and the public. This position prepares memos, letters, and other documents using word processing and spreadsheet applications; answers phone calls, takes messages and directs calls to appropriate parties; maintains and updates personnel and other files; arranges meetings and manages schedule of chairperson; provides administrative support to student groups and other tasks as determined by the department chairperson. This position also maintains and manages budgets and other records, interprets policies, procedures, rules and regulations to ensure compliance with established guidelines for the department and university. |
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
The successful candidate must possess: Knowledge of Banner Finance Systems or equivalency system; knowledge of office management techniques, database management, knowledge of purchasing and travel; knowledge of travel reimbursements; budget; knowledge of preparing correspondence; knowledge of office and record management; analytical and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize work and multitask within a busy office; ability to work independently and to take initiative and follow through until completion or resolution of assignments; ability to work well under pressure, to adhere to deadlines, and to be flexible; ability to exercise judgment and discretion in problem solving; excellent written, interpersonal, customer service and oral communication skills; excellent computer skills, i.e., proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) Applications. |
