Our Environmental Intern will work in a safe, and team-oriented environment. Our work environment is an industrial setting that can be hot, humid, cold, dusty, and noisy, and may require working around oil chemicals and other substances. The Environmental Internship will perform professional work at multiple levels in support of the Environmental Department, the Plant, and Divisional/Corporate Environmental Programs. The individual will have the opportunity to experience evaluation, development, implementation, troubleshooting, and management of the facility's environmental compliance programs and systems. This role will assist in ensuring facility compliance with pertinent governmental regulations, such as state and federal air regulations, drinking water, storm water, wastewater, hazardous waste and to relative company policies and procedures such as Georgia Pacific's Environmental Compliance Standards. This role is designed for individuals who are seeking training, professional development/mentorship, and exposure to manufacturing operations. This role supports innovation, process efficiency, product and quality goals, with an emphasis on compliance, safety & health.

What You Will Do

  • Assist in coordinating and facilitating clarifier inspection in the wastewater treatment facility
  • Assist in administration of Federal, State and local environmental program requirements, including but not limited to air, wastewater, storm water, solid and hazardous waste
  • Facilitate mill wide improvements in Sill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) program
  • Improve systems to prevent chemical waste
  • Evaluate wastewater treatment facility laboratory and ensure that gaps in equipment for WWT are closed
  • Review air pollution control device maintenance plans
  • Identify cost effective solutions for technical and regulatory environmental issues

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Enrolled in a degree or alternative program (e.g., 2-year technical college program, certificate program, upskilling program, etc.)
  • Legal authorization to work permanently in the United States for any employer without requiring a visa transfer or visa sponsorship
  • Currently pursuing an Environmental Science, Engineering or Pulp and Paper Science or a related field
  • Ability to relocate per program requirements

* Experience with Microsoft Office suite and project management software

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Ability to interpret compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience working on a computer for record keeping and documentation functions
  • Laboratory experience
