Hourly: $18- $25

Position Summary:

The Children's Aid Beacon in Action Program at the Charles Drew Campus, funded by the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) is an afterschool enrichment program operating Monday through Friday, from 2:30pm to 6:00pm. The program offers academic enrichment, additional educational instruction, social emotional learning, and the opportunity to engage in an array of enriching sports and art-based activities.

Essential Duties:



  • Supervise and care for up to 20 children in a group or club.
  • Lead by example, demonstrating characteristics that participants can learn from.
  • Enjoy being around middle school-age children, respect them as individuals, and include them in fun learning activities.
  • Supervise and provide guidance to an Assistant on day-to-day activities.
  • Develop classroom and behavioral management skills.
  • Implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum.
  • Build relationships with children and their families.
  • Design, plan, and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of the program.
  • Be punctual, responsible, and have a positive attitude.
  • Provide encouragement to children.
  • Plan, teach, supervise, and organize games.
  • Assist in activities or tasks necessary for the orderly operation of the program.
  • Supervise children during supper.
  • Ensure equipment is properly signed out, cleaned, and returned.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and trainings.
  • Work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • Pursing a Bachelors or Associates Degree
  • Field of study in Education or Social Work
  • At least one-year experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching
  • Available from September through June.
