Basic Function We are currently seeking to fill a Lab Specialist position at LyondellBasell's Bayport Polymers (BYO) site located 27 miles east of Houston, TX. Our BYO site has approximately 316 employees and contractors and is a world class chemical manufacturing facility with 4 operating units that produce Polypropylene (PP) resins. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a professional with experience in a manufacturing lab environment. This position will be assigned within the site's Technical organization. The Lab Specialist will provide technical, operational, and analytical support to the Quality Control laboratory (Lab), production units, and business teams for driving improvements to product quality processes and the Lab. The Lab Specialist also supports compliance requirements for ISO, ASTM and other industry standards. The focus of the position is to ensure the Lab provides accurate, reliable, and timely data to support both internal and external customers, and provides Lab analytical equipment troubleshooting support. The individual reports to the Technical Manager for BYO. Roles & Responsibilities * Provides instrumentation troubleshooting support beyond the Tech and Day Tech capabilities * Focal point for operating units and business units to interface with the Lab for quality support & product disposition * Identifies and drives improvement in Lab processes/systems, testing, methods, and cost * Collaborates with the Lab Chemist to ensure timely calibration and maintenance of Lab equipment * Collaborates with the Lab Chemist to provide Lab technical support for process troubleshooting, process improvement, and new business development * Supports Chemist to provide technical training on Lab quality systems for Lab technicians * Sets high expectations for quality and timeliness of action item (MOC, Intelex, etc.) resolution * Supports product quality incident investigations Min. Qualifications * 5+ years of experience in a refining, petrochemical or chemical lab environment * Demonstrated analytical equipment troubleshooting * Demonstrated corporate competencies * Demonstrated IT capability for implementation of analytical instrumentation * Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot issues and problem solve * Good computing skills * Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and conflicting priorities Preferred Qualifications * BS degree in Chemistry or related field * 2+ years of polymer lab experience * Demonstrated experience and skills with polymer lab equipment such as FTIR, XRF, Melt Flow & Gas Chromatography * MOC system qualification or similar MOC experience * Demonstrated ability in project management and gap closures * Demonstrated experience with Sample Manager lab software Competencies Build Partnerships Deliver Results Drive Innovation Grow Capabilities Promote Inclusion Motivational Fit Technical Skills Learn more about our benefits:Benefits/Health & Welfare \| LyondellBasell Stay Connected!
