****This position can be filled as a Technologist lll or a Senior Engineering Technologist depending on experience****

The Engineering Technologist III position is the third level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role. An Engineering Technologist III provides technical expertise to solve more complex problems and leadership skills to provide oversight and direction of work in a specific area of expertise, with some supervision. Employees in the Engineering Technologist III position are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with a high degree of independence.

The Senior Engineering Technologist position is the fourth level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification and considered the career level for the job hierarchy. Senior Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve more complex problems, and leadership skills to manage work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to have the ability to work independently with increased latitude for unreviewed work.

This position is with the Triad Asset Design Team. This team is responsible for the design work for major grid improvements, DOT work, new Solar Farm connections, Downtown Underground work, and major customer work. The position will also support storm work as needed throughout the system.

Responsibilities

  • Provides deep technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise,

  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,

  • Independently prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches,

  • Conducts engineering and related studies,

  • Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance,

  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,

  • Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,

  • Maintains accurate records and files,

  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally

Basic/Required Qualifications

Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relevant experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.

Required/Basic Qualifications - Engineering Technologist III

Either 3+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 9+ years equivalent experience without a degree.

Required/Basic Qualifications - Senior Engineering Technologist

Either 6+ years of relevant industry experience coupled with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),

OR 8+ years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent),

OR 12+ years equivalent experience without a degree.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology

  • Experience working with Maximo

  • Utility experience

  • Good written and oral communication skills.

  • Experience in the utility industry.

  • Able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.

Working Conditions

  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations (three days/week) after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
