Paint Assistant - Aerospace - Day Shift

This position will assist painters in racking, paint mixing, prepping surfaces for topcoat of aircraft parts or other parts as may be required. Performs cleaning and general maintenance of all paint-related supplies and equipment.
Essential Functions


  • Racking and positioning parts on racks together with like primers/topcoats appropriately to allow the coating system to be applied correctly.
  • Mask or de-mask parts as required.
  • Perform minor rework operations that may be required per internal/customer requirement.
  • Managing time to ensure proper curing of coatings will be accomplished as efficiently as possible.
  • Take inventory to ensure all necessary supplies are in stock when needed.
  • Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
  • Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties.
  • Verify paint consistency, using a viscosity meter.
  • Filling out paperwork accurately and completely.
  • Perform other incidental duties as may be required.

Required Education & Experience


  • Basic language skills
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Six months of experience preferred



Physical Requirements


  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 50 pounds. May lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Long periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • Requires manual dexterity.
  • Requires repetitive use of hands.
  • Follow all requirements; strives to maintain a safe work environment and reports potential hazards to designated person or supervisor.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - which may include safety glasses, ear protection, gloves, respirator, face mask, and painter's hood.


Physical Demands and Work Environment

To perform the essential functions of the role, employees must be able to perform the following activities with or without reasonable accommodations:


  • Regularly stand and walk throughout the facility, stand for long periods to perform job duties
  • Regularly lift, carry (short distances), and push/pull up to 100 pounds using peer assistance and/or other lifting & material-handling equipment
  • Periodically lift overhead and carry, push/pull up to 50 pounds
  • Occasionally reaches overhead and reaches out or down to perform duties
  • Frequently climb steps, stairs, or ladders
  • Occasionally bend, crawl, stoop, squat, or kneel
  • Frequently uses hand or fingers to manually inspect parts, tighten hardware & fixtures, and operate machine and material handling controls
  • Accurately distinguish colors to respond to sensors, indicators, and color-variable dashboards
  • Visual acuity to interpret readings on gauges and other measuring devices


Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing shop environment where working conditions may vary significantly; the employee will be exposed to:


  • Excessive noise (hearing protection required)
  • Dust, smoke, mist, fumes/vapors (regularly)
  • Extreme temperatures (occasionally)
  • Hazardous equipment including forklifts, hand tools, cranes or other lifting devices, and other equipment used in a machine shop environment (continually)


The use of PPE, including hearing protection, eye and hand protection, respiratory protection (if applicable), and use of safety footwear is required
